This was driving me crazy. It didn't show up in windows, and not in the control panel either. I couldn't boot from it either. The cd-rom drive would show up in the BIOS as "ATAPI CD-ROM", but it wouldn't boot from it. I tried out a few things. Checked the cables, and installed daemon tools...
