    Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 with Asus P5K Mobo ?'s

Hi, if you take a look at the "Qualified Vendors List" in your P5K motherboard manual, you will see that you can only use 2 sticks of 1066 RAM at one time, either in the black or yellow slots. At 800Mhz you can use 4 sticks of most memory brands. If you want a 4Gb 1066 machine, you need 2...

Help installing fan and cooler on CPU

Hi, do you actually have a choice? If you are using an LGA775 socket, you will be forced to orient the heatsink fins so that they draw air from the front to the back of the case. If you are doing an AMD installation, then you will point to the fan to the top...

    Is 50C @ 3GHz a little high ??

Hi, a quick update. The retailer had not applied any thermal grease to the heatsink!! I have done this myself, and now load temperature around 38-40C, and idle is 28C. System temp is 32C ... it seems odd that this is higher than CPU temp. Ambient room temperature is 23C. Joel

    Is 50C @ 3GHz a little high ??

Right, But when the system is not idle and running at 3GHz is 50C a reasonable temperature, or should it be lower with a decent air cooled setup? Joel

    Is 50C @ 3GHz a little high ??

Hi, I think the thermal compound is applied ok (although I could remove it and reapply). If the system is IDLE - the temperature drops down to 25C very quickly. However, the CPU speed also drops to around 2Ghz (according to Asus AISuite mobo utility). If the system is cranking away, the CPU...

    Is 50C @ 3GHz a little high ??

Hi, I am running this config: E6850 @ 3GHz, FSB 1333, 333x9 Antec P182 Case Big Typhoon VX cooler. The CPU temperature is 50C. If I boost all the fans to max, it comes down to about 46C. Does this seem a little high? From web reviews I was expecting something in the 30-35C region. Is the...

    help building

If you want a cheap computer to run Nascar 2003 ==> Why not buy one second hand? <=== You'll get it cheaper than if it was prebuilt + you don't have to bother building it yourself + it will probably come with a heap of software. Maybe a machine which is say just one or two years old. Be...

    Which Memory for a P5K-Deluxe ?

Hi, I am finalising a new build, and need help with the memory. The PC will be used for: Work - lots of iterative mathematical calculations - cycles through about 100Mb of RAM, with some initial disk access from a few hundred small files. Play - Watching DVD's. Photo Editing. No games (too...

AMD or Intel for the highest CPU-Memory Bandwidth?

Wow! Thanks for all the answers guys. Thought I had it worked out - and now I don't! This question wan't intended to start a 'fanboy' war - it's about finding the fastest platform to perform a specific computational task. I think I'll need to approach a supplier and ask them to lend me 2...

AMD or Intel for the highest CPU-Memory Bandwidth?

Hi, thanks for the answers. As quartzlock says.. I am iterating through the same data with varying calculations to arrive at different results. I am not the programmer .. but if I was I would spend time trying implement the GPGPU solution. In answer to jonathan - Just because I know what I...

AMD or Intel for the highest CPU-Memory Bandwidth?

Hi, I am looking for the highest possible native bandwidth between CPU and Memory (latency not important) . I need to read only about 250Mb of data from Memory to CPU, but it needs to churn in and out very rapidly. The data itself does not change. I continuously loop through the whole 250Mb...

Fast number crunching & Memory I/O - is AMD worth the wait?

Hi, thanks for the replies guys. It does seem odd that DDR2-533 is the answer :) but I'm not complaining. My question has evolved into wanting to know what system mobo/cpu/ram will give me the highest bandwidth. That is a question for the memory forum. Joel

    How noisy is a raptor?

Hi, Is a 10Krpm raptor noticeably noisier than a standard HD? Can any simple measures be taken to quieten down the noise? Joel

Im Spending $15,000!! What to get?

Carnmine - what are you going to use the PC for? If you explained that ... then ppl could give you an educated answer. For example, you could get the quad core Xeon's or Opterons and but them on a 4 CPU Mobo. That's if you want superfast multi-tasking. Or.. you could get a huge (fast) disk...

Fast number crunching & Memory I/O - is AMD worth the wait?

Hi, What is the best CPU/RAM combination for fast number crunching? Is it worth holding out and waiting for the new AMD chips? Is it worth waiting for DDR3? I use software similar to Matlab. Lots of Floating Point calculations, and lots of communication between CPU and Memory. Multiple CPUs...
