I do believe that COD MW2 should indeed run pretty smoothly, however, it's time for an upgrade. YoI can get a better gpu for $50. I suggest you save $100 and get a new GPU.

Don't be top hasty especially with an issue that is like this. Give it a week or so before you send anything in, I recommend you try to run other games other than fallout, report back, and I can get a good idea of the situation.

I'd go with a 980 at that point, SLI scaling is ineffective and inefficient at delivering double performance, you'll get like 1.6-1.7x more performance, whereas one 980 will do that, and then you'll be able to SLI those in the future

I have a friend who bought a 980Ti for 144Hz 1080p gaming and basically, it works like a charm, it's more future proof than the 970 as well as being simply a more beefy card.

This might be a problem with ports on your motherboard I suggest moving the cables. If that does nothing, try to change the slot your gpu is plugged into.

Try running GPU-z to identify what problems are occuring + set a custom fan profile to try and keep it constantly cool if temps are the issue.
