it's optional to use in the sense whether the game will be built on dx11 or dx12. Yes you can turn it off on dx12, but why would you? AMD MASTER RACE. I'll buy your gtx 960 for $50 if you want so you can upgrade to AMD.

Ignore the first comment, waiting is stupid. As for the cards.. Neither - I'd grab an AMD (390X or fury X)over a Nvidia card at the moment, as AMD is FAR more future proof.

Download HW Monitor, this will allow you to monitor your GPU temps.
