News China launches HDMI and DisplayPort alternative — GPMI boasts up to 192 Gbps bandwidth, 480W power delivery

USB maxes at 48v. I have no idea what this "B" connector looks like, but they could simply double the pins of USB-C to get 480w and still be more compact than a full size HDMI. Re: thickness, I've seen some pretty thick power cable (down to 0 AWG) that's surprisingly supple by using very...

News Intel and TSMC agree to form chipmaking joint venture: Report

As far as I know, Intel doesn't package in Taiwan. They do the opposite, fab in Taiwan, ship elsewhere for packaging. They have packing in New Mexico and Arizona, and I seem to recall hearing something in Malaysia. TSMC has plans for packaging in the US... not sure of the timeline.

News Microsoft eliminates workaround that circumvents Microsoft account requirement during Windows 11 installation

Like anything.. the right solution for the right problem. Veracrypt is beyond 99% of users who don't know or don't care enough. For you and the other 1% there are other solutions that meet your requirements better.

News Intel and TSMC agree to form chipmaking joint venture: Report

This makes sense for TSMC and the US if a calamity is expected to hit Tawain. It might make sense for INTC investors if they believe TSMC expertise will fix Intel fab problems.

News Microsoft eliminates workaround that circumvents Microsoft account requirement during Windows 11 installation

Wow! That's a sea of negative comments on this. I'd like to offer a counterpoint. It is a generally accepted best practice to enable full disk encryption on portable devices (and frankly non-portable too), and it is the default posture for Windows now. If you're MS how would you go about...

News Arm aims to capture 50% of data center CPU market in 2025

Considering the short time horizon, and the time it takes to fab, package, and integrate CPUs in to product (DC stuff takes more engineering and integration time), 2025 is mostly set in stone already. So, this guy either knows something or is utterly clueless.

Review Bambu Lab H2D Review: For Elite Crafters

I think it would be great to engrave on all sorts of things wood, glass, metal, acrylic. It would be useful if I could do custom engraved pens. Is it possible to engrave on an egg shell? Also, I could come up with lots of uses for thick raised wooden lettering, custom wooden puzzles, etc...

News Game developers urge Nvidia RTX 30 and 40 series owners rollback to December 2024 driver after recent RTX 50-centric release issues

4090 here. On 570 series and Win11 24H2 I get a black screen at boot up ~ 75-80% of the time. It takes a hard power cycle and luck to get the Windoes login screen to display. Also, immediately reboot if I have either a vive og or pimax 8kx connected when steamvr launches. Quest3 via virtual...

Review Bambu Lab H2D Review: For Elite Crafters

Is there a difference between the 10w and 40w laser combo (other than the laser itself)? Additional safety features, dark glass, etc.? It seems like no, but then why is the price so much more expensive? I'm an x1c user, and love it, but want more volume. I've often looked at laser units and...

News New LED displays packing 90nm 'virus-sized' pixels can deliver 127,000 PPI visuals

How about ar glasses that project an overlay on your vision without the screen being in the way. Systems that do similar (hololens) are big and clunky.

News New advanced filesystem format option found in Windows 11 preview build — ReFS supports up to 35 petabytes

I've used refs for about 10 years now in a productions setting. If you have an application that can takes advantage of fast block clone, then it's amazing. It's also good for larger arrays as corrupt blocks are detected and repaired which ntfs can't do. On ntfs you have to run a full chkdsk...

News Qualcomm launches global antitrust campaign against Arm — accuses Arm of restricting access to technology

How easy is it really to move from ARM's ISA to RISC-V? I assume the vast library of software will have to run through a translation layer if there even is full feature parity between the two.

News Enthusiasts report Gigabyte X870E Aorus Xtreme chipset temps exceeding 100°C

I've had 3 recent Aorus Master series MBs (x670e, z690, x870e), and they have been really solid. My only complaint is i felt like RAM on the x670e should have overclocked better.

News New LED displays packing 90nm 'virus-sized' pixels can deliver 127,000 PPI visuals

I don't think it works that way. I don't think an element that emits a photon of light has to be equal or greater than the wavelength of said light. Pretty sure a single electron can emit a photon in the visible spectrum. That said, I do have my doubts the technique described in this paper...
