Question File Copying in Windows stops and starts, V-shaped ramps In transfer speed ?

I see similar performance with iperf. Using the -t parameter to do a 60 second test, here are the results. Please note one PC is only running with x2 lanes due to a limitation on my motherboard; so the maximum of 760 MB/sec (rather than 40 gigabit) is expected. However, you can still see the...

Question File Copying in Windows stops and starts, V-shaped ramps In transfer speed ?

What iperf command do you suggest I use? I'm not sure how to test it continuously for an extended period of time. When I do the default tests (the ones the last only a couple seconds) the performance is fine, but I need it to go continuously for a few minutes to simulate the copying of a large file.

Question Long Flexible M.2 to PCI Adapter?

I have an MSI X670-P Wi-Fi motherboard with the following layout: Currently I have the OS boot drive in M2_1, and two 2-slot GPUs in PCI_E1 and PCI_E3. I would like to add a PCIe 3.0 X8 networking card, and I'm OK with it running at X4 speeds, but X2 speeds are a little too slow. Given...

Question File Copying in Windows stops and starts, V-shaped ramps In transfer speed ?

I do not have Samsung Magician installed on either system, so these would all be using their default configurations.

Question File Copying in Windows stops and starts, V-shaped ramps In transfer speed ?

Both systems have 64 GB RAM (the AMD is DDR5 4800 MHz and the Intel is DDR4 3200 MHz). Using ethernet in the second networking setup (the OWC and Mellanox cards) could be part of it, but I still observe this even with a direct QSFP+ connection in the first setup (the intel cards). I decided to...

Question File Copying in Windows stops and starts, V-shaped ramps In transfer speed ?

I have two Windows 10 computers directly networked together, but when I copy a single, huge file (20GB) between them, I get performance that looks like this: For some reason, after a certain period of time, the copy speed falls off a cliff and then ramps back up. I can't really tell what's...

Question Most USB Ports Stop Responding Briefly After Waking From Sleep

I have an HP Elitedesk 800 G3 and for some reason after I wake it from sleep, the mouse briefly stops responding for about 2 to 5 seconds at a random time between 1 and 3 seconds after waking from sleep; but it responds as normal outside of that time frame. This is true for all of the USB ports...

    Question Intel XL710-QDA2 in PCIe 4.0 x 2 Slot?

The intel card is a PCIe 3.0 card though, so wouldn't it run slower than that?

    Question Intel XL710-QDA2 in PCIe 4.0 x 2 Slot?

I want to directly connect two computers using two Intel XL710-QDA2 40Gbps PCIe 3.0 x8 cards. However, the only slot I have available on my MSI x670-P Wi-Fi motherboard is a PCIe 4.0 x 2 slot (the physical slot size is x16). See "PCI_E4" in the diagram below: If the card I would put in the...

Question Pentium G4560T in Elitedesk 800 G3 SFF?

Can an Intel Pentium G4560T CPU be used with an HP Elitedesk 800 G3 SFF? This particular processor is not directly listed as supported on HP's webpage, but the Pentium G4560 (non-T) processor is listed as supported. Will I have any issues getting the T variant to work...

Question What are the most important components for low idle power draw?

I recently built a few computers this summer for various purposes and I was surprised at how big the difference in idle power draw between the two of them are (when running Windows 10 and the same power plan settings). PC 1: HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF (motherboard, PSU, and case) Intel i7 8700...

Question Teamgroup MP33 NVMe SSD High Idle Power Draw

I was testing two SSDs and I was surprised to see a large difference in idle power consumption between the two in an HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF PC with an i7 8700. Samsung SM951 (256 GB) Teamgroup MP33 (1 TB) What I noticed was that when I had the Samsung drive in the system (with the OS...

Question RTX 4090 for 3D Rendering - Burning Connector Risk?

I was planning to get an RTX 4090 for 3D rendering animations (Redshift), but I'm concerned given there have been more reports of melting connectors. Considering the nature of 3D rendering, the card would be working 24/7 for days and sometimes even weeks at a time. I'm concerned with that much...
