this might effect it as well, if the ram is sold in sets - but it shouldn't stop it from working.
The only way you can correct the speed is by using ur default ram and plugging new one in + using bios to correct the speeds.
Make sure it's plugged into the correct "socket" sometime one can be wrong even if there are two...
Ensure that ram added to your computer, is installed correctly. Turn off the computer, then remove and re-insert the ramstick ensuring that each component is firmly seated in its slot.

When it comes to mixing ram kits they should have the same timings, CAS latency, frequency, voltage required and quantity of ram.
Even so, it may not work at all.
8GBs is quite enough for most user's needs, going above that aount of ram is required only when multitasking or heavy softwares...
i'd rather ask, what is it that you might be afraid of not working with this build?
THe build in it self is fine, all parts work with each others without any problem.
I personally pref asus strix over gigabyem better performance and better cooling.
