must Post for graphics to display

Turns out it was a bad PSU. I replaced the PSU and all is working again.

must Post for graphics to display

The situation has changed in the past 24 hours. Using F2 no longer works. The chassis has two status lights: one for system power-on, and a second for HDD activity. Now, only the power-on light is "on" (no HDD activity indicated). Also I never hear the Windows logon sound. I'm beginning to...

must Post for graphics to display

Hi RaDiKaL_, I checked the primary adapter setting in BIOS. As you suspected, it was set to PCI-E. I changed it to IGFX. Same result. :-( Nothing on the monitor unless I use F2 to view/change BIOS settings. (I checked the setting, it was saved). Ugh. I should note, I don't see any BIOS POST...

must Post for graphics to display

Thanks RaDiKat....I will check primary adapter setting when I get home this evening. To clarify: the ONLY way I ever get something on the monitor is to hold F2, get into BIOS, exit (no save) and continue booting into Windows. I have to do this EVERY TIME I powered up the system the past few...

must Post for graphics to display

This problem popped up a few days ago on a home build that has been running for 14+ months. Configuration details are at the end. Here's the problem: The monitor remains black/blank when I power up on the system. In addition, the monitor's indicator light never goes from amber (standby) to blue...

SATA 6 GB/S HDD backward compatibility

I want to add a HDD to an old Dell T3500. It has SATA HDD interface (3. 0 GB/s). New drives now have SATA 6.0 GB/s. Are the new drives backward compatible? (I assume yes, but want to avoid surprises.) Second question: I currently have a WB Black Caviar drive (WD1001FAES 1TB). It's worked great...

how close does RAM have to match?

Unbuffered, as in non-ECC, eh? Shoot, I need ECC non-registered to match. :-( I bought it, so guess we'll find out when it arrives. :-) Is there a test I can run to determine ECC vs non-ECC once it's installed? Thanks!

Help me upgrade my ram for ASUS P6X58D-E please

motamedn. NO.... slow down. I don't think you can mix. You need definitely need to find the mobo spec on this before mixing 4gb and 2 gb sticks!!! All slots on my Dell have to be the same size. So 6x 2gb or 6x 4gb, but not 3x of each!

Help me upgrade my ram for ASUS P6X58D-E please

OOPS. I overlooked the link to the new Corsair XMS3 model. Ugh. Yes, that has same speed and latency, so should work fine.

Help me upgrade my ram for ASUS P6X58D-E please

Full mobo specs are here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/specifications/ In short, your mobo supports up to 24G RAM, DDR3 at 2000(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 MHz The channels have to match. So you can add 3x2GB (for 12GB total) or go all in and buy 6x4GB (for 24GB total) :-) If you go for...

how close does RAM have to match?

Thanks COLGeek. I replied earlier but don't see my post. I think I got it; there are 3 categories: 1) Uunbuffered (non-ECC), 2) ECC (non-registered), and 3) ECC Registered The 3 can't be mixed. My Dell T3500 currently has ECC and can also use unbuffered (but NOT registered). So, either I find...

how close does RAM have to match?

I found something very similar listed on Ebay, marked: Hynix 4GB 2Rx4 PC3L-10600R-E-9-10-E1 Seller lists as ECC memory (don't know what the 10600R means). Sold as set of 4 (16 GB total). Is this compatible with 2 DIMMS in OP (2Rx8 PC3L-10600-E-9-10-E0)

how close does RAM have to match?

Thanks for the note. I was considering non-ECC, so I avoided a big screw-up. Unfortunately, ECC adds some $$$. :-( Why go from 12 to 24 GB? The system is used for engineering work (CAD/FEA). 12 GB is enough for basic problems, but more is better for large problems. (I've run my biggest problems...

how close does RAM have to match?

I've always bought RAM in matching pairs, and now find that's hard to do for my old Dell Precision T3500 with 12 GB RAM (OEM installed). There are 3x 4GB DIMM, and 3 open slots. Max RAM/slot is 4GB. I'd like to add 3 more 4GB DIMM (increase to 24 GB total). Existing RAM is Hynix 4GB 2Rx8...
