Thanks for your speedy response. I expected it to be necessary to have separate licences for 2 OS installations on one PC, I've therefore obtained a 2nd Win 7 licence for the Win 10 upgraded so this isn't an issue for me.

The 600 mm long 24 pin motherboard cable supplied with my Corsair RM 550 psu is twice as long as needed and it's creating a major congestion problem. Can anyone recommend a good supplier of a shorter compatible cable?

Many thanks for your contributions, job done. AHCI setting not changed, HDD jumpers replaced to set as Master, all connections remade & the HDD was instantly recognised by Win7 without entering the BIOS. So the IDE HDD with converter to SATA appears in Explorer as E drive & the BIOS recognises...
