    I5 8600k vs ryzen7 1700x Which on should I use?

Personally I'd go with Ryzen. 8 Core/16 Threads over 6 Core/6 Threads. Also, the platform is cheaper to OC on.

    75Hz better than 120Hz

The Hertz of a monitor is how many times it updates per second. 120Hz needs 120FPS to fully utilize the refresh rate. If you do not get up to 120FPS, a higher Hz monitor is still beneficial due to less screen tearing. More Hz is always better.

    Upgrade GPU or CPU first?

Get a Ryzen chip so you can OC.

GTX 1070 low FPS while gaming.

This is due to a bottleneck with your CPU. You will have to upgrade to a more recent platform if you want to take advantage of the 1070.

So the i5 8400 is coming out.. Trying to build a machine

While it is not as powerful as a gaming chip, the R5 1600X would provide you good enough performance with a much better platform. Also, the 1600X can be OC'd.

Help with upgrade - would this be possible?

It would be a better investment to just a second hand laptop for cheap. Since you are running Puppy Linux, anything modern will handle it with ease. I would also recommend looking at low end Chromebooks (with an x86 platform), they have killer battery life and you can run Linux inside crouton...

xbox x - the pc killer?

The Xbox One X at best is a high end AMD gaming PC from 2013 (FX-8350, R9 290X). Microsoft brags that it runs Forza at native 4k, while on a 1080TI it can handle native 8k.

Advice on buying used gaming PC

If you are only wanting a prebuilt, I'd advising looking at slickdeals. For gaming PCs, you typically want to speed between the $600-900 range, as that is the sweet spot. Something like this would this would be sufficient for a 1080P60 experience on all games...

Twitch.Tv Gaming & Stream PC (Ryzen 7 Build Advice)

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/kdYQ4C I swapped out your RAM for 2 faster 4GB sticks. This will allow you to use Dual channel, and the frequency bump will help with Ryzen's infinity fabric.

New GTX 1060 vs used GTX 980!!! Which to choose!!!

The 980 for 200 is better than the 1060 for 280, but the 1060 would be a better card. I'd personally wait until GPU prices get back to acceptable levels.

Is this build ready to buy? Any thoughts?

For the price you are paying for that 1070 (they are normally around $350), I would pony up the extra $100 ($730) and get a 1080Ti and have virtually the most powerful card on the market.

Team Fortress 2 NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

I would leave that most of the settings on auto. Valve's PC ports are good quality and any settings you would need to change will be in the game's graphics menu.
