x1950 Pro AGP crashes and other unstable behavior

Update: After going through the forums at www.worldofwarcraft.com I found that there were a lot of people having problems with x1950 cards. I made the decision to RMA my x1950 Pro and return it for refund. I picked up a BFG 7950 GT OC today and installed it. Happily I play 2.5 hours of WoW...

x1950 Pro AGP crashes and other unstable behavior

I also have a Powercolor x1950 AGP card and have been having problems with it. I have now tried it on two different builds and it is consistently crashing in World of Warcraft. I've checked everything else (Memtest 86 - no problem; Prime95 - no problem) - everything is pointing to the card...

Problem with disk errors with Plextor 708A....

Ok, here is an update. I made the change from PIO to DMA on the Secondary IDE channel as I mentioned previously. I made a backup of a DVD and watched it tonight - no errors - the disk played fine from start to finish. I previously tried backing up this disk (Hidalgo) and had skipping errors...

Problem with disk errors with Plextor 708A....

The burned disks will have the same skipping problems towards the end on my settop player, my LiteON DVD-ROM drive and on my Plextor 708A. In fact, I tried ripping a few of the disks, and they would not rip either (got stuck about 80% into the process). The drive is a little less than a year...

OK, I just got home to check my machine. In terms of the device manager, the only thing I found was that one of my seconard IDE channels was set to PIO, so I changed this to DMA. How do I tell if my Plextor is on the primary or secondary IDE channel? I'll try burning another disk and see...

How many drives do you really need?

The one advantage of having a seperate DVD-ROM drive is that you can put the original disk you are ripping into the DVD-ROM and then your blank media in the DVD-writer. You then set up your software to rip, re-author, burn etc and walk away from the computer. When you come back the burnt disk...

Problem with disk errors with Plextor 708A....

I have a Plextor 708A burner hooked up to my P4-3.2 based system. I've been running into problems consistently with burning DVD-R's and +R's. My set up for backing up movies is as follows - I use AnyDVD combined with Nero 6. I have the latest firmware for the Plextor and latest versions of...
