32bit DX9 possible in crysis on vista 64?

I imagine the bin32 shortcut is simply a shortcut to the main Crysis game executable with an argument parameter. Not knowing what the game explorer work around is, I'm guessing it's another command line parameter inserted into the shortcut to Crysis. If you get up the properties for the bin32...

    Unreal Tournament Three: jitterines?

I have a similar problem during mission loading, the sound just stops for a second or 2 before continuing. But the rest of the game is perfect, I can even run it at 1680x1050 with everything at max without any problems (Athlon X2 4800 (2.4GHz, 1MB L2 each core), 2gig DDR400, Geforce 8800 GTS...

    Optimizing Vista pagefile

Well, they only happened playing UT2004 so it might have been that specifically. Either way, I don't think anyone really needs 4gig yet and the bsods went away as soon as I took the pagefile down to 2gig.

    Optimizing Vista pagefile

The 1.5 times thing is also the rule of thumb Windows itself uses. However, with 32bit versions of Windows that rule is problematic when you have 2gig of RAM, as that would give you 3gig of pagefile. That's 5gig altogether, which with 32bit windows causes bsods with IRQ_OUT_OF_RANGE errors (or...

Help: I have an Intel X3000 on-board grafic

His post says his location is Romania. Otherwise though, I agree. The 7300/6200 etc etc cards are never really any good for any gaming, I think they're meant mainly for HTPC type systems, to get purevideo in or some such. A 7600 is a fine card though, my friend runs his 24" Dell beasty...

    Partitioned Disks Are Slower?

If it is I would presume that it would be because you've got less continuous data, as HDDs work best reading long streams of data in a continuous track. If you think about it, because of the different partitions you've got a 'forced' gap between data, resulting in more of your data being nearer...

Do I need a floppy to install XP on raid 0?

Unless you slip stream the drivers into your XP install (a program called nLite can do it for you). Otherwise you do have to use a floppy disc, the setup routine won't look for a CD or anything else while looking for drivers.

    IDE Cable Alternatives

There are some rounded IDE cables that use a kind of netting material rather than plastic sheaths which I find is better, and some (I can think of one or two) new DVD writer drives that connect to SATA. For the vast majority though, IDE (that is PATA) is the only option.

Comparison on XP, Mac OSX and Linux?

To Althaz: I couldn't have said it better myself, and agree completely that Windows security problems are as much a problem of perception as anything else. I have heard arguments that basically went "ever heard of a zombied Linux? no, that's 'cos Linux rules and Windoze sux" etc etc. Which...

    Vista + DX10 + Less?

Yes, DirectX 10 needs the new model of video drivers debuting in Vista.

    DX10 conumdrum...

As I understand it, Vista will come with the latest iteration of DirectX 9, which I think will be functionally identical to DirectX on Windows XP, as a side by side installation with DirectX 10. DirectX 9 will never be updated again, so provide 'permanent' backwards compatibility for all...

    Cross-licencing agreements

As I understand it, HyperTransport is something developed by the HyperTransport Consortium (who oversee it's continued developed), of which AMD is one of the founding members. Further research has revealed that to use HT you have to be a member of the consortium, and so presumably Intel can't...

Why cant cpu clockspeeds get any faster?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to defract a single electron as if it was a wave? I definitely remember covering an experiment in A level physics (although we didn't do it, just covered the basics). What happens in this experiment, electrons are fired at a flat absorbing material...

    "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon?

Hot plugging was also part of the origional SATA specification, although not all controller's supported it (I had a 300gig disc that would overheat, on a VIA controller, the system would lock up and die horribly, on a nvidia nForce 3 controller the drive just disappeared for a moment and then...
