[SOLVED] Battery not recognized in Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40

I changed the charging port because my daughter damaged it with too many careless cord removals. It was loose and even with good battery was not able to hold the plug. I replaced it a second time because I thought the make of charging port (there are multiple random firms that make them) might...

[SOLVED] Battery not recognized in Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40

P.S. To fully complete the repair I had to also replace my replacement of the charging port, to finally get proper charging followed eventually by a green light. Not all batteries with the right part number work. Not all charging ports work. Here are the battery and charging port that worked...

[SOLVED] Battery not recognized in Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40

I will close this for now. It turns out that Lenovo BIOS checks for Lenovo batteries and maybe a few others on a whitelist you can't get to. So it's trial and error and read the user comments to find a battery the BIOS will pass. You can't update the BIOS without a full battery to begin with...

[SOLVED] Battery not recognized in Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40

Here is an identical issue: Blinking amber light I put in a new battery. powercfg/batteryreport detects it, identifies it, and shows capacity. I have a new 90W charger which doesn't throw the issue of "AC charger not recognized". I put in a new charger port a few months ago. Eventually...

[SOLVED] Battery not recognized in Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40. It doesn't recognize a new battery. I replaced it with another new battery. It recognized that battery, for a day. It started charging, but I noticed that the charge port did not light up. The next day, the charge port did light up, but again it didn't...

News Japanese Workstation Weds AMD's 64-core EPYC and Two GeForce RTX 3090/3080

The beauty of this machine is that it answers a question I had that nobody could answer: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/what-case-and-motherboard-can-comfortably-fit-2-nvidia-3090-gpus.3646340/

Question What case and motherboard can comfortably fit 2 NVIdia 3090 GPUs?

Nobody has been able to answer this question, but luckily the answer lies inside this box: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/japanese-workstation-weds-amds-64-core-epyc-and-two-geforce-rtx-30903080 Also this is definitely the right 3090 model to use, as it is skinnier than others and blows the...

Question What case and motherboard can comfortably fit 2 NVIdia 3090 GPUs?

I have a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master motherboard, with an Aorus 2080Ti in the big slot and an EVGA 1060 next to it. The 2080TI is basically a triple-wide card, and the spacing between the 1st and 2nd slots out of 3 on the board accomodate that. However, the 1060 is still butt up against the...

Question Used space of 168MB on newly formatted SSD

OK maybe it needs 168MB just for the block map on 931GB. In Computer Management it just says Basic Healthy (Primary Partition). There is only one partition. If I look at Properties it says Type: Local Disk and File System: NTFS. I was just surprised that the block map was that big. However...

Question Used space of 168MB on newly formatted SSD

I just formatted a brand new SSD that I put in my motherboard. With nothing on it, Windows is reporting 168MB of Used space and 931GB of free space. The 931GB constitutes 1,000,009,211,904 bytes of free space, which makes it a 1TB drive. But what is that other 168MB all about? I formatted it...

    [SOLVED] DDR3600 showing as DDR2400

UPDATE: It turned out I just had to turn XMP profile on in the BIOS. I thought I'd done that but apparently not. Just one button click, don't have to know anything about 19-19-19-whatever. I figured this out after running this benchmark code which gave a report that basically said "Hey, turn...

[SOLVED] Used K80 a brick in my PC

They have some actively cooled high end cards beyond 2080ti. It's good to know power requirements are still fairly hairy though. Something to keep in mind if I ever get rich enough to buy one of these. For example Quadro guidelines say you will come in 25W short with an 8-pin PCIE cable...

[SOLVED] Used K80 a brick in my PC

UPDATE: There are no actively cooled K80's. Also NVidia doesn't like it when people jam these in PCs, totally cold shoulder about it: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/969520/cuda-setup-and-installation/tesla-k80-stopped-working/

[SOLVED] Used K80 a brick in my PC

Thanks for the spec sheet. It's clear there: "For backward compatibility with existing systems, NVIDIA will provide a power dongle that converts the CPU 8-pin to two PCI Express 8-pin connectors. T " That didn't come with the card from Met Servers. I would have had the two PCIE 8pins...

[SOLVED] Used K80 a brick in my PC

My motherboard takes both first and 2nd EPS connectors. I guess I could have gotten an EPS connector splitter. It's kind of moot. When I got the card I learned that a K80 is really two K40's, which are not going to be as fast as new 2080i's. The 2080i will definitely work in my motherboard...
