As it turns out, thanks to the great motherboard layout it's impossible to mount the GPU on the second PCI-E slot because the case pins for power down etc are too tall to fit the GPU above them

It's a bequiet! Pure power 9 and should be 2 to 2.5 years old -the power supply removal was quite painful, I'll update in another 15min
