Are you sure you need that powerful CPU? Most video editors and processors/plugins are able to use GPU rendering. When I render something in After Effects, my CPU usage on 4790k stays at 40-60%, meanwhile GPU (GTX 980) is close to 100%.

Besides the things above.. OS? My CPU (same CPU as yours) was cooking on Windows 10, meanwhile stays cool even under stress test in Windows 8. Never found a solution.

Thank you for shining light on this.. As it turns out, I didn't actually know how cores worked, I was positive it actually slowed down CPU's, but that type of architecture actually makes more sense and indeed would improve performance in most cases.

@TJ Hooker 7820x is using twice the power, is built on a better socket, has 4x bigger L2, doesn't have built-in graphic processor, etc.. It's nowhere close to "same architecture".
