Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

Thank you for the detailed info, BambiBoom. I've purchased that $680 one your recommended. My next inquiry would be configuring such a machine to do multiple render jobs simultaneously, harkening back my inquiry on virtualization. Some say it's not necessary. If so, that's good enough for...

Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

Thanks BambiBoom, very insightful. Going on the cheap, the T5500 looks very favorable and there's many options to pick from on eBay with just the GPU in need of an upgrade. The most affordable one that I've narrowed down to is a dual hex core. And, again due to keeping it cheap, I found some...

Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

Essentially, the sellers are more familiar with data servers than anything else so they couldn't give me a good answer. The T5500 has been my main focus, thus far. Assuming T5500 can support it, I'll look into the GTX 1080. Otherwise, maybe a Quadro

Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

Yes, GPU does help. Given this, there's a lot of options out there, but different people, from sellers to redditors, have stated that they either don't know if these options I have listed work or that they're not configured for rendering. Right now, I've been shown the fast and fuel efficient...

Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

I'm looking at Blender. But there's other 3D software I might use. Its optimal requirement is: 64-bit eight core CPU 16 GB RAM Two full HD displays with 24 bit color Three button mouse and graphics tablet Dual OpenGL 3.2 compatible graphics cards with 4 GB RAM I've based my specs on its...

Picking the best 3D rendering computer/server

I'm trying to decide on a server that I can use as part of my 3D render farm. I want to add virtualization so that I have, say 4 VMs running on the machine, reducing my render time. A server would fit this need, if it is built for it. The server has to be in the same room I'm in so it can't...

    Swap out a 490 motherboard for a T5400 Motherboard

Yeah, that'll depend on what you want to use them for. It's definitely a problem if you're going to use all of the USB ports and your mouse and keyboards aren't USBs. I think the only way is to remove the back cover that's blocking the USB, mouse/keyboard ports, etc. to gain full access

    Swap out a 490 motherboard for a T5400 Motherboard

Success. Since Tom's Hardware tends to show up in Google Searches, I hope this thread will answer other people's questions on 490/T5400 compatibility in their searches.

    Swap out a 490 motherboard for a T5400 Motherboard

Update: Got the motherboard and it looks like you'd have to switch out the front panel USB Audio because the front panel connectors are different (empty pin position is different). Also, the motherboard's keyboard/mouse and USB positions are different so one would have to use USB...

    Swap out a 490 motherboard for a T5400 Motherboard

Does anyone know if this will work: Given a Dell Precision 490 Workstation with a 490 motherboard, can it be swapped out for a T5400 motherboard. Looking at the manuals (490 manual, T5400 manual) there are slight differences in components but if all I care is that the CPU, harddrive, memory...

    M4a785-m only recognizes 4 gb of two 2x2GB Ripjaw DDR2 1200

I have extra memory from a T5400 I purchased. Before I pull them and test them on this ASUS motherboard, any thoughts?

    M4a785-m only recognizes 4 gb of two 2x2GB Ripjaw DDR2 1200

Well I've moved it around in random slots in random orders prior to inquiring here so I don't think it'll do any good to switch the memory or place them on slots 3 and 4. Here's the screenshot. It's the same for both memory.

    M4a785-m only recognizes 4 gb of two 2x2GB Ripjaw DDR2 1200

F2-9600CL6D-4GBRH Looking at the list of qualified motherboards, it would seem my memory will only work on a Intel Socket 775 not an AMD AM2+. This is what I get for buying a whole computer dirty cheap off of ebay. Don't see what a screenshot will help after that revelation but:
