News Meta defends using pirated material, claims it's legal if you don't seed content

Since the beginning of time, people who downloaded mp3s of random music they likely wouldn't otherwise be paying for have been threatened with anything from astronomical fees to jail time. In that context, jail time seems very appropriate for: - the "researchers" at Meta who committed these...

News Steam checkout banner clarifies you don’t own the game you buy — GOG takes a jab at Steam, saying it gives users offline installers that cannot be...

Perhaps take this as hyperbole: Steam is ran by a skeleton crew that couldn't care less about someone replacing their game with an empty folder. They got their $100 to list the game and their 30% of each purchase, and as long as it's not a violation of their latest pet peeve (atm: outside links...

News OBS cuts the cord on Kepler GPU NVENC support — version 31.0.0 Beta 1 no longer works with GTX 600 and GTX 700 GPU hardware encoders

The old people posting here that 12 years old hardware isn't too old perhaps forgot how computers became antiquated trash at just say four years of age. A long long time ago in a Moore's-Law-iverse far away, it took only a bit more than a year to go from 500 MHz to 1 GHz CPUs.

Much like you're an authority on tech and video games, I'm an authority on dinosaurs now: Dinosaurs are green. When a dinosaur dies, it turns into bones. Dinosaurs don't usually speak the same language as me. I mean, do you just not fact-check anything, or is this hallucinated up by some GPT to...

    SSD Prices Start To Plunge

Bought the Micron 1100 a few months ago, didn't expect further price drops. In hindsight wish I had gotten more faster Samsungs.

Corsair One Desktop PC Review: Cooler than the Rest

    $3000 for DDR4-2666 and a 512 GB SSD. Pathetic.

Setting up raid 0 with nvme

Samsung presumably does not supply drivers for third party RAID. You have 16 PCIe lanes, and the equivalent of 4 PCIe lanes for DMI. If you hook up one m2 drive, you (can) saturate this DMI bus. When hooking up a second m2 drive, as you mentioned in your opening post, the lanes for that must...

    New SSD problem

You're supposed to initially boot off the Windows install media, not set the empty disk as boot drive. Typically it's possible to hammer some key at startup to override the boot drive and pick a DVD or USB stick. Which button that is depends on your mainboard.

nvme RAID 0 on ASRock X370 Fatality Gaming X

You can also 'JBOD' the disks together under a single letter, getting all the fault tolerance issues of RAID0 with none of the performance advantages and none of the performance drawbacks.

Setting up raid 0 with nvme

Since your system isn't exactly heavy on the PCIe lanes front, you realise this presumably means running your GPU at 8x rather than 16x PCIe, right? Not that that incurs a real penalty for current hardware, just saying..

    Samsung 860 EVO M2.2 1TB and 960 EVO PCIe NVMe - M.2 SSD

You pay 30-50% extra for M2 versus mere SATA. 850, 860, 960, 970 are all fine buys. 'Pro' tends to be a waste of money.

    Samsung 860 EVO M2.2 1TB and 960 EVO PCIe NVMe - M.2 SSD

Really depends on what size you bought, want; what prices you have; and what your use case is. "8700K/Threadripper" doesn't sound like you're entirely sure what you want to do. A Threadripper system would be something you buy more for professional / productivity use, and has gobloads of PCIe...

Intel Optane SSD 905P Review: World's Fastest SSD Gets LEDs

To really "benchmark" this drive you'd need to do some extreme multitasking scenario, as in compiling Chromium while loading Skyrim while patching League of Legends (and who knows how many times you gotta do that to get reliable numbers).
