The first step might be to stop using AI Suite/EZ tuning for the overclock. I haven't tested on z97, but I know that previous versions changed all sorts of settings and voltages that wouldn't need to be touched if you were doing a manual overclock. Just checked this on my old z68 board - BCLK...
