News U.S. lawmakers request probe into Chinese router manufacturer TP-Link — letter cites cybersecurity vulnerabilities with TP-Link routers

Well, they'll have to find some funds for an upgrade if they're worried about their network security. There's no such think as dirt cheap and secure when it comes to network equipment, it's one or the other.

News U.S. lawmakers request probe into Chinese router manufacturer TP-Link — letter cites cybersecurity vulnerabilities with TP-Link routers

Considering how those routers are dirt cheap for the most part, it's hardly a surprise they're more vulnerable. The military shouldn't be using bottom-shelf network hardware in the first place, it's not like they lack the funding to procure good quality hardware.

News Recall drawing regulatory scrutiny in the UK — Microsoft's AI Copilot+ feature a 'privacy nightmare

He probably meant "remove completely". Just toggling it off is useless if someone else has access to your computer and can enable it again. It's like disabling a webcam by disabling the driver VS unplugging it entirely.

News EA is looking at putting in-game ads in AAA games — 'We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that,' says CEO

If that's the case then we're probably looking at a crash eventually. If you need ad revenue to keep a business in the green and ads aren't one of your products then your business is in trouble.

News Overclocker sold a die-less Core i9-14900K in China — product suffered from serious silicon deficiency

It's just business really. The more popular a product is, the more fakes and scams there are.

News Helldivers 2 PC gamers will need a PlayStation Network account to continue playing — Sony doesn't care if players don’t own a PlayStation console

Always gratifying to see costumers actually acting in their best interests for once. Even more gratifying to see it pay off.

News SK hynix is teasing 300TB SSDs as it pushes into AI

I wouldn't be surprised if it cost significantly more than a good pc. That's a lot of storage space there, I doubt it's even in the same post code as cheap.

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

Oh it's game changing, what I'm disputing is the timeline not the importance of the technology. As for our ability to predict the future, for every example either of us can find of an accurate prediction we can find another ten that badly missed the mark. As you yourself have stated...

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

And we had flying cars since the turn of the century. Or so the 50s expected. The truth is that technology rarely advances as fast as we expect it to and to believe we'll have human level AGIs available in less than a decade is just as unrealistic as the 50s and their expectations of flying...

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

Doubtful. And if it happens at all it certainly won't be in one or two years from now like he claims. General consensus, as much as it exists anyway, is that if it happens it will be decades to centuries from now.

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

Considering AI has been able to synthesize new music from old ones since the late 50s that's hardly surprising. The exponential gains you talked about above are entirely restricted to the output quality of AI. Image manipulation, response to input, music generation, text generation, AI has...

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

Hardly. It's not just a matter of resources, there are limits to language models and to machine learning as a field. There's a lot more to developing general AI than just pouring processing power into an language model. We're not even close yet.

News Elon Musk says the next-generation Grok 3 model will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs to train

So Musk is claiming that we'll develop a whole new type of AI that's several orders of magnitude more powerful than any we have available right now, in 2 years, using currently available technology? Yeah, even Jensen Huang wouldn't go that far and he's been doing nothing but hyping up AI these...
