I've order a new one, and I'll send the old one back in the new one's packaging. There was no way to communicate that I wanted a specific batch, so it's fingers crossed.

Apparently "computing" can be returned up to 30 days in "best possible condition". It'll probably mean 4-5days without my machine, but I suppose in the long run it's worth it... How do I not get another duff chip?

Edit: The UEFI does have "min cache ratio" and "max cache ratio" settings. I presumed it wasn't these as your suggested value of 35 is way lower than the Asus recommendation of setting it to the same as the CPU core ratio...
