News More and more USB sticks and microSD cards are being made with dubious components — data recovery firm uncovers no-name, low-quality NAND inside ma...

Believe it or not,but SanDisk used to have their key chain USB sticks with just a Micro SD card soldered on a PCB. Even the big brands do it. Shame! Because reliability goes down, the device heats up too much, random read- writes go down etc...

News Vapor coating lets Raspberry Pi run under water without slimy or sticky feeling

Nothing plastidip or a thin layer of epoxy can't do.

News Streacom's new $1,300 ultra high-end passively cooled PC case cools up to 600W of power

The nice thing about these cases, is that with 2x simple 140 to 180mm, 12V case fans running at 5V, you can increase the cooling capabilities by at least another 300 to 500W.

So, how quick could the chip calculate pi, with frequency limitation removed?

Question Advice on overclocking an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB ?

I wouldn't touch the power limit on those cards. Anywhere from the GT1030 to 1050 you can gain performance by cutting power and overclock. The 1660 I would keep stock power, overclock the memory by 500Mhz (some programs can do 1000Mhz), and the GPU by 25Mhz increments, usually under 100-200Mhz

News 39-Year-Old 4.77 MHz DOS Web Server Hits 2,500 Hours of Uptime

It all depends on how much data the cpu handles. AMD Ryzen 2900 and 2950x for instance, never made it further than a week to two weeks of uptime under 100% load. They're horrible for full load applications. Intel on the other hand, some of my modern celerons, pentiums, and core I5 units, ran...

News Intel Ponders Transition to 64-Bit-Only x86S Architecture

I don't understand why 16 or 32 bit software can't be ran on a 64 bit process natively? Most 16 bit cpus were below 33MHz, most 32 bit cpus were below 2Ghz. Most current 64 bit cpus are 5Hhz and counting. Even if a 32 bit code was ran in a 64 bit cpu through some software conversion layer, with...

News Loongson Begins to Enable CPUs That Could Rival AMD and Intel Offerings

What a trigger title. China cpus are 4x slower than Intel and amd in benchmarks. First off, they're not energy efficient (lack of sleep states), second they're built at 14nm, while amd is at 5nm. Third, their cpu cores only run at 2.5Hhz, vs double that on amd. Fourth, they don't have cpu...

News Intel Unveils Core CPU and Arc GPU Bundles, Balanced PC Builds

The rx6400 really only need pcie 3.0 x4 lanes, as they worked just fine for most applications all the way to a much faster rtx 2080. The difference between x4 and x8 is just 10%. 8 pin connector is easy to get. You can either do an 8 pin to 2x 6 pin, and convert a 6 pin to 2 different sata...

News Intel Unveils Core CPU and Arc GPU Bundles, Balanced PC Builds

They'd be better off selling one of their cpus with an arc gpu built in. Like a 4c8t, 4Ghz cpu, matched with a built in Arc igp hosting 64 eus, and 2k shaders running at half the cpu frequency, or 2Ghz. Additional to that, the igp has access to it's own dual channel memory lanes (eg: 2x 8GB...

News AMD to Make 'New' 2019-Era 3000G APUs to Sell Old Motherboards

If only intel would release a new cpu every 10 years for the last gen motherboards 10 years ago... Like: - "still own a 486 dx4 100Mhz? Intel will release the 486 dx4 2500Mhz, for a more up to date 1990s experience.". Or, - "Stuck with a core2duo at 1.66Ghz? Now releasing a compatible...

News Passive AMD Radeon RX 6400 Mod Dwarfs Compact Graphics Card PCB

Not worth it. A 12v fan running on 5v, consumes less than 0.25w, and allows for the fan to live for many decades. The area that contributes to cooling of a 50W gpu should be about a quarter the size.

News How to Overclock and Underclock a Raspberry Pi Pico

You don't need precision tools to get power metrics from the pico. All you need is power the pico with a 5V usb charger using an inline USB V and mA meter. You'll have precision down to (usually around) 50mW or less. Also, your code to decrease cpu frequency does so in blocks of 10Mhz, with the...

Don’t Buy a PC With 8GB of RAM (Unless You Plan to Upgrade It)

Bs! I still run some of my units with only 2GB of Ram (granted, they run Ubuntu 18.04). I do have a windows 11 pc, and with some fiddling, I can run it off 4GB of RAM, and run an additional 4GB of swap on the ssd, and it does work just like the Ubuntu one (good for basic stuff). There's no...
