    Thanks jsmithepa. I had a feeling it had something to do with the raid config. I was hoping to get some data off the hard drives so it looks like I might have to fix the laptop to get my data back.

    I recently purchased a Unitek USB 3.0 to IDE+SATA Adapter. When I plug the first 500gb Hitachi HDD into the adapter I get a pop up window saying check device information fail.
