After turning off the PSU, I tried turning it back on and the pc booted up fine, probably worthwhile to replace the PSU anyway after all this.

Yea sadly it's difficult to get more info, this was a prebuilt pc, I'm aware they are known for lesser quality PSUs. So what would be the logical step for trying to get this fixed? first replace the PSU? also, fans are still running, I haven't switched off the PSU for fear it might cause...

Alright the PSU is 500 watt 80 plus certified, i've had it for 2 years with no issues. if it is a PSU failure how can I go about confirming it?
