Seems doubtful you got a working card for $20, unless it was from someone who had no idea what it is worth. These cards in working condition go a minimum of $100 and up on eBay. You may of purchased a counterfeit one, a lesser card labeled as being a 1080 Ti.
Maybe the RTX 5050 is not e-waste as some reviewers are saying. I ended-up buying a RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, but for someone on a budget, spending $250 is better than $430 which is the minimum you need to spend to get to 16GB of VRAM on an Nvidia card.
Better to go used. You can get an RTX 2070 8 GB on ebay for around $175, or a RTX 3060 12GB for around $230. Both of these perform much better than the new cards reviewed.
Buy from someone who allows returns if the used card doesn't work. I have bought numerous used GPUs from ebay, and they all...
Here we go again, another article from Tom's that appears to be written for Intel's benefit by comparing an expensive flagship Intel CPU against a much cheaper AMD one. The folks posting complaints about this are right to do so.
What is even more disturbing is the authors arrogant and...
> battery life and portability
Sorry, but the Acer is a gaming laptop that only has good battery life if you don't play games on it. The TH review's battery life test was for only video playback and web browsing. The RTX 4070 GPU in the Acer laptop cannot be powered by the battery; it needs 125...
The display resolution of 3072 x 1920 is admittedly above average, but also a waste on such a small screen. The question you should be asking is, is it worth it to pay $1,250 for a tiny screen and memory you can't upgrade?
Also, the laptop version of the 4070 is misleading - unlike the desktop...
Sorry to disagree, but TH is clearly not "right" here. The sub-headline of the article is "This small build hides big power!" - which it certainly does not. The CPU is anemic compared to what you can get in other laptops for the same money and the memory is non-upgradable. It should be noted...
I don't understand why Tom's keeps pushing "deals" that don't seem that great. $1,249 for an 14" screen, medium performance CPU and memory than can't be upgraded?
For the exact same price that this 14" 16-core no-RAM-upgrade laptop cost, I bought a few months ago from B&H the 18" version of...
You are correct. The author chose to compare the new Mac Studio against a 3 year old AMD chip and a 2 year old Intel one. Intel and especially AMD have made great progress since then; their current chips could well meet or exceed the performance of Apple's M3 Ultra. The prices for the AMD and...
A much better deal would be the Acer 18" Predator Helios Neo 18 Gaming Laptop which B&H is currently selling for only $1,299.
It has the same size screen as the Asus, also same CPU and GPU. Main differences are that the installed memory is 32 GB instead of 64 GB and the SSD is 1 TB instead of 4...
This review unfortunately makes the Mac Studio look more reasonably priced than it really is, by limiting its comparisons to only two of the most expensive CPUs made by AMD and Intel. This allowed the author to conclude that as much or even more money would need to be spent building an AMD or...
