News Crazed modder straps DIY copper waterpipes to GTX 1060, sets world overclocking records in 12600KF category — card hits 2,202 MHz, takes top six Fi...

Personally I'd stick to the 1060 because that's damn impressive compared to the 1080ti they're considering - unless that's for a lower-end CPU, IMO:)

News China could be the world's top semiconductor foundry hub by 2030 — despite US curbs, nation to hold 30% of global installed capacity, surpassing Ta...

This doesn't surprise me. China already supplied a lot, and then America saying "we don't want your cooties!" gave China extra incentive to push homegrown. 2030 makes sense if you also keep in mind that they have over 17% of the planet's population and they want their own people to BUY CHINESE...

News Windows Blue screen of death axed after 40 years, but BSOD still remains — will be replaced by new black Windows 11 'unexpected restart screen

Guess I should have been more specific: I was referring to versions of Windows, not necessarily operating systems :) I just remember that waaaay back in the day it was a block of white text on a blue background - like a WordPerfect document (does anyone still use that anymore? What a big deal it...

News Windows Blue screen of death axed after 40 years, but BSOD still remains — will be replaced by new black Windows 11 'unexpected restart screen

Anyone remember the old full-of-text white-on-blue BSOD screen from the pre-XP days that Windows 3.x and I think Win95 used? I wonder if that style might be more useful in general. The style that we have nowadays doesn't feel like it tells me much. Am I misremembering things? The OG ones...

News Scam RTX 5090 bought for $2,000 missing entire GPU chip — crooks lifted the GPU die and memory right off the board

Stories like this are why I, given an opportunity, would rather buy my stuff from a physical retail store, or a known and trusted retail outlet if I have to buy online. Remember, when you buy through Amazon or eBay, you're rarely buying from the company itself, you're buying through a third...

News Google is killing the web with AI Overviews – I made an extension to block them

Thanks to Avram for putting in time to make something that's useful to us. Yes, there's other options, but that's a bit like saying "I made a chocolate cake, do you want some?" and pointing out there's a pastry shop nearby where you could get Black Forest cake - or apple pie if that's your...

Review Acer Vero B247Y 24-inch FHD IPS 120 Hz gaming monitor review: Colorful all-around value

Used, maybe. But nobody does a vaguely reasonable monitor for $50 brand new, especially by a well known and established brand. It's hard to get something worth considering even under $100. That comment is like expecting a 5090 to be $500. But that's not reality for anyone.

News Intel launches $299 Arc Pro B50 with 16GB of memory, 'Project Battlematrix' workstations with 24GB Arc Pro B60 GPUs

IF it ends up being a good AI GPU, you could fit four in a typical PC chassis as long as your motherboard has sufficient slots. Four PCIE slots means 96GB VRAM which is a lot for handling AI on a home server and only be about $2000 for GPU's. Sounds like fun! ... Calling Wendell at Level1Techs? :)

Review Endorfy Fortis 5 Black ARGB Review: All you need for AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D

Glad to see AMD finally added into the testing, considering how strong a platform they have for gamers and beyond. But I've never heard of Endorfy. Who are they? Are they known in other areas (like Tyan) and just not consumer PC cooling?

My week with Linux: I'm dumping Windows for Ubuntu to see how it goes

Quick now about Notepad++ As far as I remember, the common browser shortcut for zooming (CTRL+ or CTRL-) works there too. Give that a try?

Discussion What's your favourite video game you've been playing?

Barring stuff like Magic: the Gathering as a physical TCG (ie not on Arena or MTGO), the three games I'm most likely to play are Titan Quest, Age of Empires III, or Masters of Orion II: Battle at Antares - and I think TQ is the newest of those? and it came out in 2006 and hopefully this summer...

Review Corsair Vengeance a7500 review: High performance blended with high style

You're saying this is north of $650 difference between what Corsair sells this for and what you can build it yourself for. I would like to see how you come up with this pricing. I'm by no means saying you chose bad components or whatnot - far from it - but I find a roughly 25% increase over base...
