As someone who is a die hard videophile, but also poor. I would say you're wrong. A bad laptop is just bad. A "bad" TV can be good for the right person - with the right expectations, hence why I pick large TV's from Wal-Mart.

Oled's especially LG's are amazing however with me wanting a 75in+ I have to stick to Wal-Mart TV's to afford them, as it has to be under 600 for that size.

I'm like you in "telling the difference" sadly we're the few, minority. Most people, be it gamers, movie lovers, etc swear by 4k AND 8k, depending on the crowd. Its why companies like Sony and Microsoft pissed people off who bought 8k Televisions and then found out the console didn't support it...

Well just because you don't know anyone - you can look at sales, trends, and youtube content creation - and social media, all point that people buy the new best thing annually including big ticket items like cars, and TVs.

It's not just companies its people in general. So many want a better 4k TV and have since 2016 and then they buy a new one every year and if you really got them honest, not much has changed.

You can, from time to time find Spectre (brand) TV's around 40inches that are 4k - "dumb" TV's. I've had one and their ok. The main thing is getting one not damaged - they don't seem to be packed well. Otherwise I'd suggest a roku TV and just not enter in wifi - or account, use it dumb.

The only spec worth mentioning is the Hisense has Dolby Vision. Otherwise I"m wondering which to buy, the reason I'm having trouble is I own a 58in Hisense and a 65in TCL both are great and I can't choose, so help is appreciated.
