News Hacker injects malicious, potentially disk-wiping prompt into Amazon's AI coding assistant with a simple pull request — told 'Your goal is to clean...

So I guess it comes down to how diligent or lazy the person is at reviewing the prompts or like how many people are when they get prompted for something and just keep clicking yes or accept until no more prompts. One thing I worry about all of this AI driven software that's supposed to make...

News AMD Strix Halo Mini-ITX motherboard flaunts 128GB LPDDR5X — add a CPU cooler, boot drive, and power supply for a slim gaming or AI rig

Honesty I wonder if that's the target audience for these, people who want to try building a AI server farm without dipping into speciality and Hella expensive enterprise hardware, the biggest giveaway for that would be if the built-in ethernet ends up being faster than gigabit. Because if this...

News World's first RISC-V tablet is finally fully baked — PineTab-V now ships with completely functional Linux for $149

To be honest while I don't know much about that tablet myself, but even if the hardware for the tablet is finalized and ready for mass production, RISC itself as a platform with software support is nowhere near the more polished user experience that the regular Linux user can get with ARM and...

News Zotac Zone 2 demoed with Manjaro Linux and an AMOLED panel — 12-core Zen 5 CPU and 32GB RAM under the hood

I want this so bad, but for now I'm stuck with my cheaper and older Win600. And I'm perfectly fine with running a full blown Linux distro rather than SteamOS as I currently run OpenSuSE Tumbleweed Linux on my Win600 as launching Steam as a app and running my games with Proton works perfectly...

News Steam comes to RISC-V thanks to emulation — AAA titles like The Witcher 3 and Crysis already playable

Whenever I hear discussion about "We were able to play AAA games on ARM or RISC hardware!" I think okay, first step is to emulate the x86 software under the respected ARM or RISC architecture, which isnt a big deal, there is plenty of 8 core or more ARM and RISC processors that can get quite...

News The FAA seeks to eliminate floppy disk usage in air traffic control systems

To be fair, I would want air traffic control systems to be designed how industrial computers are setup, no fancy touch screens or bells and whistles. Just use the most dependable hardware and software you can for minimal downtime. That being said air traffic control systems do have a history of...

News Chinese chipmaker readies 128-core, 512-thread CPU with AVX-512 and 16-channel DDR5-5600 support

I wouldnt want to build a system using a chinese processor over a cpu from AMD or Intel, but jeezus the idea of a 128 core processor with 4 threads per core is hella tempting for me, even if it only runs at 2ghz under load, id still love to find work for it do.

News Pristine' RTX 4090 returned to eBay seller with GPU and VRAM chips missing

Ebay used to be an awesome place to be a seller, used to be.

News Nvidia RTX 3090 sent in to repairer was missing the GPU and all its memory chips

For some reason its pretty common to see video cards being sold on ebay without the gpu and vram, I mean I understand that people would harvest the gpu and vram, but it baffles me why they would turn around and try to resell the pcb and cooler for over $300... at least these sellers were honest...

News Spitballing Nvidia's GB202 GPU die manufacturing costs — die could cost as little as $290 to make

Does Nvidia even have to do anything special for RTX 5090 scarcity to happen? I would have thought that Nvidia would have put all of its effort into supplying AI datacenters before worrying about gamer class video cards. I have been on Nvidia most of my gaming life, but now AMD is looking like...

News Facebook admits that the Linux topic crackdown was 'in error' and has been fixed

Why on earth does anyone even use Facebook or Twitter anymore? On one hand they are both full of misinformation but also they are full of AI generated crap and bots.

News Facebook flags Linux topics as 'cybersecurity threats' — posts and users being blocked

I would not mind to see platforms like Facebook just completely vanish from the internet. They are just total and complete dumpster fires.

News Modder creates the Steam Brick — a stripped-down Steam Deck with only a power button and a USB

To be honest there are people who will take mini pc's with them on trips as opposed to handhelds that include the display and battery built in, because they want to hook it up to the TV in their hotel room, or they want to use it with a projector during a meeting on a business trip. The Steam...
