I recently installed Crystal Disk Info on a hard disk that was riddled with bad sectors. Crystal Disk Info was installed for 1 hour and all the time it reported that the drive was in good health. Is a HDD monitoring tool like this only suitable for monitoring over a couple of day because it's...

What do you recommend for an optical drive?

They are pretty much all the same. Never really noticed a big difference between brands in this area. Most seem to be made by LG, Samsung, Lite-On and some by a Hitachi / Toshiba alliance. The Rolls-Royce used to be Plextor but this might have changed.

If there are files in the queue causing a problem just select Reset Printing System and all queued jobs will be deleted. System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners. then click on Control as you click on list on left The Reset Printing System option should appear.

Ping one IP address but get a response from another?

sorry I don't have a screenshot of it. Surely, someone has seen this before? Just to recap, 1) You ping a printer with it's IP address e.g. 192.168.1.200 2) The ping results come back as "Reply from 192.168.1. 40" I am just wondering what is happening here?

    Setting up an Access Point

sorry to interrupt here but why do routers have DHCP start and DHCP end parameters? For example, in this case, why can't the router just give out IP addresses in the range 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254?

Ping one IP address but get a response from another?

Shaun, thanks so much for such a in-depth response. The networks I would be dealing with would only have 3-4 devices on them. Secondly, would it have anything to do with the printer's own software or driver. For example, with some Brother network printers, they seem to connect to a network...
