Lesson learnt far too late. Could you also tell me why I should NOT go for a sub-700 joule model? I'm not a savant in this regard.

I have a Corsair VS 550 that got burnt out due to power fluctuation. I can't buy any solid PSU as of yet, so I wanted to know if a surge protection power strip like the Belkin F9E400 could help prevent it from winking out again. All help is appreciated. I'm skint right now.
