Tried all sorts of strings but no luck. In the end I used a hairdryer for 10 minutes and a good bash worked. Obviously I might have damaged it, so need to test it. Can I use the cpu and heatsink without the thermal paste for a few seconds, to see if it powers up to the bios screen?

Problem is that it's not on the m/b. And it can't get on the m/b as the heatsink is in the way of the lever for the cpu socket. If the lever is up, then the heatsink doesn't fit. And I don't think you can slot the cpu in with the lever down

Even tried a screwdriver on the cpu side and hitting with a hammer. I only used the 'amd' paste in the box!
