    Mobo and CPU query.

From what I have seen in benchmarks Photoshop isn't optimized for more than 2 cores, so a E8400 will run better than a q6600 in it. This has been true for the past few versions of Photoshop. What the future will bring no one knows...

New PC for CG, 3D modeling and AI

Quadro vs Geforce dabate. Get Geforce over quadro, quadro isn't worth it at all. To really put it simple Q6600 2.4 overclock to 3.0-3.2 GHz Better heatsink+fan (AC Freezer 7+) Gigabyte P35-DS3R 8800GT or HD3870 2x2GB DDR2-800 (5-5-5-8 - cheap stuff) 500W PSU (2x12v at 18A at least) A case of...

OC means to overclock. You get a q6600 and overclock it from 2.4 to 3.2GHz (or even more). A 3.2GHz quad core CPU would cost you a 1000$ and this is just as good.

New PC for CG, 3D modeling and AI

Get a 8800GT or 3870. Don't go for ultra or SLI cards. No 3D app uses SLI or Crossfire. Go for the q6600 and overclock to 3-3.2 or more. It's a life saver for rendering. If you decide to overclock it would be good to buy and better HSF. Also get some DDR2. You dont really need some expensive...

Q6600 Ocing vCore close or above 1.5 volts

In my experience the mobo will go first. People take so much care of their CPU and then the mobo fails or a capacitor blows. Sorry I dont really know how much life expectancy you can get from 1.5vcore. I would like to know to. ASUS does use the 8 Phase design but I believe there is a flaw in...

    Cheap PSU for 3 GHz E2160 and GA-P35DS3L ?

Sorry. I have the ATX-350PNF model and it's specs are: 12V1 - 18A, 12V2 - 16A Newegg has the PNT model. I dont know what the difference is. I see the 12V rails specs are really low.

    Sapphire 100225L Radeon HD 3870 and 3ds max 9.

Workstation cards can run games just fine. You need to understand it's just the difference in the drivers not the hardware. There is usualty a small decrease in performance when using a workstation card with games. The 2600xt isn't a good card for gameing, the 3870 is far supperior but for 3ds...

    Sapphire 100225L Radeon HD 3870 and 3ds max 9.

You should google 2600xt (2900) softmod to firegl. Those are the last ATI cards that could be softmodded to workstation cards. I dont know how good hd3870 is with 3ds max and I didn't try the 2600xt. I have an nvidia 6800GT softmodded to quadro fx3400 and I think it will be faster than your...

New MOBO for Q6600 Need help.

You dont need 8800GT to play solitaire or minesweeper. If you dont play games then move to a budget P35 mobo and a budget graphic card (2600XT -> softmod to FireGL - this might be better for the programs you use). If you ever decide to game than you can always buy a better graphic card. I...
