    460 1gb sli

Absolutely not. The 1gb ram in 99% of the games at any amount of 'playable' AA levels is not a bottleneck. You can look up gtx 460~768 SLI that performs well in most games at 1080P. 99% of them. Except in Metro 2033 at some AA levels and Crysis at some levels, settings @1080p. edit: Now...

Does the 6970 have the potential of the 580?

GtX 580 - Fermi 100/110 is a huge /complex chip. It has a lot of extra hardware to get that extra 15% out 40nm. 48 ROP"s and a 384mb memory interface, an area of the gpu thats probably not a major bottleneck in other gpu's but its part of the edge

EVGA SC GTX 570 vs PALIT SONIC GTX 570

I'm more impressed with the Vapor chamber coolers on the reference style 580/570, they obviously work excellent. Vapor chambers aren't used very often because they add expense to the card.

Need help...want the best for my buck

I would put the 550 psu you ordered in and a gtx 460. If you can wait a couple weeks, the gtx 560 is coming out and will be more powerful. The gtx 295 is a older dual gpu card, that does not support blu ray 3d. A card like the gtx 560 single gpu will be as powerful as the gtx 295 was. Its...

    Single-slot XFX 5770 with Crysis?

There is also a single slot gtx 460 that will rule them all as far as single slot cards go. Its expensive. It uses a copper vapor chamber. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162072&cm_re=galaxy_gtx_460-_-14-162-072-_-Product
