    Asus P9X79 PRO + Xeon E5-2667 v1 - Does this combo work?

Hi all, Good news - the E5-2667 worked absolutely fine out of the box - the board arrived with the 1104 BIOS. All of my 8GB DDR3 DIMMS were detected too without issue. After finding the Arctic Freezer 33 Plus being too fiddly to install, I initially used an BXTS13A cooler that I bought for the...

    Asus P9X79 PRO + Xeon E5-2667 v1 - Does this combo work?

Thanks for your reply, g00ey. I'm a bit confused. The Asus website page for the board says: Intel® Socket 2011 for 2nd Generation Core™ i7 Processors - so I have no idea what socket version that is. And Intel's site says FCLGA2011. Asus say v2 CPUs work but don't mention if v1 CPUs do. The...

    Asus P9X79 PRO + Xeon E5-2667 v1 - Does this combo work?

Hi, I have an Asus P9X79 PRO motherboard and have managed to obtain an Intel Xeon E5-2667 v1. The Asus website mentions that the board supports the v2 version of this CPU. Does anyone know if the v1 version will work? Many thanks!

I use a pair of Sennheiser HD457's, Had them about 3 years and they cost about US$40ish at the time. Still using them and they sound great for movies/music.

    Headphones/mic

Can't advise on mics I'm afraid. I've always liked Senheisser headphonrs myself. Nice and warm sounding, without being too fatiguing with the higher frequency ranges. Bass is pretty dcent on them, without being overpowering. I currently use a chepish pair of HD457's with both my PC and also into...

    What "hi-fi" system to get?

For home theatre speakers (of the small satellite type), I'd take a look at Canton Audio. I found them to sound fuller and less harsh in the higher frequencies than Bose. They were also around 50% cheaper. I use the Movie 80 CX package with an Onkyo TX-SR606 and am very happy with the sound. One...

    AsRock Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M & E5200

Thanks for your quick reply. Spec-wise, it should, but do you think there will be any issues where the BIOS has CPU ID checking in place and does not allow the system to boot, as it knows nothing about the processors's ID? Thanks, Neil

    AsRock Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M & E5200

I'm currently running a Core 2 Duo E8400 on an ASRock Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M - details. As I'd like to move to having 8GB RAM and also the option to upgrade to a Core 2 Quad at a later date, I'm going to replace the board with an Asus P5Q Pro (and buy the 8GB RAM at the same time). A work...
