You might as well get the 144Hz monitor now. I'm sure there are games that you're playing right now that the GTX 960 or R9 380 is capable of putting out more than 60 fps. As far as SLI 1070's, only if you're going 1440p or 4K. SLI 1070 is way overkill for 1080p, even at 144Hz.

At this point I think getting an R9 290 would be a better buy given that it's only $50 bucks more and offers features like true audio and crossfire without needing a physical bridge attachment on top of the performance boost over a 7970. If you wait for AIB partners to make their own coolers or...
