Why can i hear myself through my laptop speakers? (Toshiba laptop)

Just make sure that you remember to activate it again when you want to use it. That's why I went into detail with the "listen to this device" checkbox, so that you can keep it activated, but I'm glad that you got it working.

Mobile network (3G) card for laptop

Thanks. I'll take a look into my laptop, and see. I can't root my phone; it's an NEC Terrain, so the only way to use my phone's network is to use a usb cable to "tether" it to my pc, and that both manages to be cumbersome and drain my phone's battery faster than it can charge, which I did not...

    Help finding donated laptop

Laptops aren't free; they're considered luxuries. There are student discounts in some occasions, but the closest thing to a giveaway pc is the rasberry pi, and you would still need a screen, keyboard, and mouse, which ends up totaling about $100 including the pi. Either that, or use the pc's...

Why can i hear myself through my laptop speakers? (Toshiba laptop)

If you have an orange speaker icon on your desktop (lower right hand corner), right-click on it, then click on audio devices, then click on the "recording" tab, then select your laptop's microphone. Then, click properties, then the "listen" tab, then make sure that "listen to this device" is not...

Mobile network (3G) card for laptop

Would it be possible to replace the default network card in my laptop (Lenovo P500, with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 card by default) with one that allows me to use it with my phone's wireless network? I know that you can buy external adapters, but it's tempting to just get something like...

Mini ATX/ITX case with three slots?

I have an AsRock H61M-DGS motherboard that takes up three slots; are there any computer cases out there that have the same? I can only find ones with two slots or four. I know that the motherboard is technically mini ATX, as mentioned in the description, but a mini ITX that happens to have an...

Intel Motherboard doesn't allow boot if it doesn't detect a cpu fan

I know, but I'm lazy and cheap. I just wanted to put my half-assed solution out there in case there's any real problem with having the cpu fan set up that way other than heat.

Intel Motherboard doesn't allow boot if it doesn't detect a cpu fan

I have an intel DP67BG motherboard with an arctic freezer 7 pro rev. 2 cpu cooler. The wire meant to carry data about the fan speed to the motherboard tends not to work, so the fan will keep spinning, but the motherboard doesn't want to boot into the os unless it recieves that data, and just...

Best Graphics Cards for the Money (Archive)

They're overestimating the graphics card that you need, even for "playable." I've got a gtx 660 running gta v at mostly high settings at a resolution of 2560x1440 (QHD), with a stable 60 frames per second, and they're saying that you need a gtx 950 for games to be "playable" at 1900x1080 (FHD)...

    cpu for NON-gaming

A xeon processor plus a graphics card sounds perfect for this case, but I can certainly say that if you're not getting discrete graphics, your computer is going to run incredibly slow; I have a laptop with an i5 processor and 6 gb of memory, and it really struggled when I hooked up a second...

Power supply surge and now comp is basically unusuablw

I had an asus motherboard that displayed that message in a similar situation, and it turned out that the surge had fried the a stick of memory, a graphics card, the psu, and the motherboard. Before replacing it, I would suggest carefully checking that the power supply still works before doing...

Should only case fan be exhaust or intake?

I'm re-purposing an old case, but the original system only came with a single fan used for exhaust. Considering that I'll have the psu exhausting air out the back as well, and no other fans, would it be best to leave that fan where it is, as the original manufacturer intended, or remount it to...

System shuts down when "connecting drivers"

I installed the most recent BIOS using the recovery update and it seems to be working; when I reconnected my hard drive, it booted up the operating system normally. Thanks! (It's a bit strange that I managed to do it using USB though, when I reread the instructions it said to use a CD)
