I went ahead and told it to format my HDD during the windows install. I'm back on, and everything seems to be working fine!

Should I worry about trying to remove my old data? or will reinstalling windows effectively wipe my HDD for my purposes?

A few days ago my HDD kept spinning at 100%, and despite my best efforts, I couldn't figure out how to solve the problem. I've had this happen in the past, and the last time I encountered this, running chkdsk seemed to resolve the issue. I told ChkDsk to run with the /f and /r parameters, but...

ah ha, well I'm getting progress on the HDD!! perhaps my SSD is just bad. already up to 8% and i just started a minute ago. nice seeing progress even if its not on the drive i wanted to use. fingers crossed the progress continues.

yeah i've got an HDD here. I'll give it a go and report back my results.

well that's good news at least. I'll keep scouring forums. really doubt its a hardware issue.... unless its just the flash drives being butt. i might get a DVD drive hooked up and try a disc.

Using a different flash drive this time, still hanging out at 0%. Could this be because I don't have drivers installed?

Update: I got an error saying "Windows cannot install the required files. The file does not exist." yaddy yaddy yadda, error code: 0x80070002. Currently downloading the windows 10 ISO, and i'll get it on the jumpdrive via Rufus. I'll report back.

Update: GPT problem solved. Still freezing at "Getting files ready for installation"

so I see the drive this time, but I have this error message: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
