Excellent job reviewing this card, finding the issues other review sites didn't, and coming up with the reason.

So, they actually fuse off 4 CU's to artificially create a lower performance card to sell cheaper than their non-neutered card. I hope this is a result of yields ie they do get 1 or 2 that fail, because otherwise why don't they just sell one high end card cheaper?

I went with the 3770k and got a better heat sink and 32gb hyperx at 2133 and it's fast and great value.

I used a thermalright TRUE 120, works very well. Get them cheap off eBay. Use 2 fans in push/pull configuration. Also make sure your case has enough fans to get rid of waste heat. I overclocked my e6600 to 3.2 stable but eventually sold it and bought a Q9650 which even at stock was much better...

Good to read an article on design, rather than on just speeds ands feeds. They are great looking chunks of metal, I'm actually considering getting my upgrade with a windowed case so I can actually see where my money is spent.

None of the current CPUs are that much of an upgrade that its worth spending the money in my opinion. Maybe try to get a cheap 3770k that slots into your current motherboard, when they become cheaper, say off eBay. But even then you'd be spending over $200 for only 10-20% more CPU performance...

PS: I think I have a bit of envy it'd be awright having a job where you get paid to be an enthusiast and build kickass systems for people.

Really nice build and something I'd love to own if I had the pesos. At least I get the benefit of your research and ideas so I can put together and in my case tune my current build. My current build is cool but I now need to try and make it quiet - it's too loud for late night work with kids...

Hi Thomas, this build is beautiful. I love it and I love the thought and creativity you put into the cooling. I wonder, with ITX being more and more popular, will we see a 2011 socket ITX motherboard ever? I'm trying to image the same build with a high end ivy-e or Xeon.

This was not a bad little build at all and more than ok for htpc duties or a PC for a young kid.

So you are buying 2 Titans at over $1000 each but you don't know whether to spend $100 more on the CPU? Doesn't make sense. Save money by buying 2x 780 GPU and buy the 4770k and water cooling.

If you never went above 3.2gb usage it's because you have 32 bit windows and that's the max beforehand using swap

Do you know what I think? I think that the problem is that our benchmarks are old and shitty. These processors have capabilities,that are simply under utilised and the software we are using is clumsy. Lumbering haswell with software that frankly still performs well enough on a C2D or C2Q is the...

I can't believe I waited another year for this CPU. I knew performance wouldn't be a leap but I was hoping for a lot better power consumption, not worse than ivy bridge.
