Question "Safe" to buy a 14900K...?

Well, I certainly won't be fiddling with it at all. Coming from an 8700K, I'm guessing the most 'boring' factory settings will be lightning fast as far as I'm concerned.

Question "Safe" to buy a 14900K...?

Oh, I see my PSU wasn't in that list - I got a DeepCool PX1000G, which I guess is a bit overkill hearing your suggestion of an 850.

Question "Safe" to buy a 14900K...?

Hi Roland, thanks for the insights. The purpose for the build is creating 4k animations in After Effects and Premiere. Those are the only two power programs that I use (maybe a little 3d sculpting here or there; I don't do any gaming, for what that's worth). I put it together on PCPP while...

Question "Safe" to buy a 14900K...?

I'm sorry if this is a worn out question / topic. However, a few months ago, I put together a new intel PC build and was about to pull the trigger when all of this trouble with intel CPUs started to really surface. So, I held off buying. Now I've seen that the patch is out that supposedly...

Question After Effects Users - Weigh in on GPU?

Well, my thought was that my current CPU (8700k) is topping out before the GPU, such that, with a stronger CPU, I'd want to make sure that an old GPU would not become a bottleneck...so, I'm upgrading, just not to the most expensive (mid range) options out there.

Question 4x32 vs 4x48 RAM for stability?

Thanks all for the comments! SO, is DDR5 just more unstable than DDR4? And what does 'unstable' even mean? Will they, like, burn out or something? I really appreciate the lively discussion here. Right now, I'm planning to get this 128GB set...

Question After Effects Users - Weigh in on GPU?

Greetings, So, I’m building a PC for editing 4K projects in After Effects (and then exporting and finalizing them in Premiere). I‘ve been working with AE for about 15 years now so know my way around the program and am aware of its demands. I built my first AE PC in 2017. That time I got a...

Question Preview / Critique my (planned) 4k After Effects Editing Build

AH, ok. Some good things to think about.... Since my original post, I upped the MoBo to MSI MAG z790 Tomahawk b/c I thought that might natively support the 14th gen intel...It's only about $10 more? I'll go with the 4TB m.2. I do want separate drives for boot and scratch disks, but I'm...

Question 4x32 vs 4x48 RAM for stability?

Hello! I'm putting together a new editing PC and have received a few comments over on the PC builders reddit regarding the relative stability of various RAM kits. I need at least 128GB, which means a kit of 4 sticks. Is there any reason 4x48 would be more stable than 4x128? And is this even a...

Question Preview / Critique my (planned) 4k After Effects Editing Build

Hi all, I'm about to purchase the elements for my second ever build (first was in 2017). This machine will be used primarily for 4k compositions in After Effects (thus the 128GB RAM) and Premiere Pro. I'm ready to buy all this this weekend, but wanted to get some experienced eyes on it before I...

Question Using the OS drive from my old PC in my new build?

Oh right, that makes sense. So, would I....uninstall windows on my old PC before switching everything over?

Question Using the OS drive from my old PC in my new build?

Hi, I'm prepping for my second PC build and am wondering if its possible to transfer the drive on which my OS is currently installed (a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB) from my old PC to my new one. Could I then use that as my boot drive and essentially have the same computer, just with all new...

[SOLVED] CyberPower 425VA alarm going off - is my PSU fluctuating?

Ok, thank you. So you're saying new surge protector vs. new PSU--probably...? Would this also make sense as to why the PC shut down today immediately after I plugged my ipad into the CyberPower, even though the PC was plugged into the wall?

[SOLVED] CyberPower 425VA alarm going off - is my PSU fluctuating?

Hi, I have an EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ Gold 750W PSU in my PC and--back when I built in in 2017--people on this forum vetted that as a good option for my build. I also have (had) my PC plugged into a CyberPower 425VA surge protector. I've recently started doing some work in VR and while I...

[SOLVED] Looking for a back up computer (Photoshop, etc), choosing between these.

Hi there, So, I have a workstation for my heavy lifting Creative Cloud needs, however, I’m moving that build out of the house and into my office and so we’re looking for a small, back up computer to use for every day computing needs. These will mostly be: Photoshop (editing RAW images, using...
