[SOLVED] Why doesn't applying Windows updates finish off configuration?

Appreciate the reply, but I don't understand how I'm "telling it not to" (if you mean, that's why it doesn't do the config as well as the updates in one operation). A Windows installation will restart a PC several times and leave it ready to use when it's done, so I wondered why updates didn't...

[SOLVED] Why doesn't applying Windows updates finish off configuration?

When notified, I'll usually install Windows updates as I power off for the night by selecting 'Install updates and shut down'. Sometimes when I next power up, there'll be a notification and a short-ish delay while 'configuration' is carried out. It's not a big deal, but I can't help wondering...

    Mystery item attached to(?) Network

Thanks, USAFRet. I've looked at the Network Map under Control Panel, and it seems I've misunderstood the terminology. I had thought that I'd connected the PCs under a new, wired network and that that was what the entry at the top level of the File Explorer 'tree' structure (i.e. along with...

    Mystery item attached to(?) Network

Hi, USAFRet. How do you mean, "connected"? The network I'm looking at is the one between my two PCs via the crossover ethernet cable, which to my mind should be the only components of that Windows Network. How is this other device connected to that network when I haven't added it?

    Mystery item attached to(?) Network

Hi, BuddhaSkoota - directly via a crossover ethernet cable, i.e. without a router physically between them. Both PCs are also connected to the internet wirelessly via the router in my housemate's room. I've never seen the router itself - is it possible that that's what the Fujitsu device is? I've...

    Mystery item attached to(?) Network

I've got two PCs networked via ethernet cable, one running Win 7 and one Win 10. I rarely need to access one from the other, but on doing so today there is a third entry (i.e. other than the PCs themselves) under Network in File Explorer, listed as FUJITSU-I31SEQ and visible on both PCs . If I...

HDD with burnt-out SATA power pins - can I replace the PCB?

Thanks for the continued interest. I've created a Postimage account, and here are three pics (top and bottom of the HDD, although possibly not relevant, and the PCB itself): - I secured the 'matching' HDD on eBay last night, and am hopeful that when it arrives I can simply switch the PCBs...
