Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

Yeah, it was kind of a joke proposal :) although I doubt 3/4 of NVIDIA customers are that easily offended ;) I think NVIDIA has decided that titan has become a strongly defined product, and they don't want to change names in case the customer wouldn't understand a change. What makes no sense...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

I realize that ( therefore gtx giant, as in the gigantes of Greek mythology), but they never officially confirmed where the name is from. They like using titanium edition, which is from the element, and they can always redefine the origin as they wish. But if you want Greek, what about using...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

@mathgeek: As you can order the FE directly from nvidia at the msrp, at least the price should be the stable one from the start. And as nvidia has been binning chips since they started producing the titan, they should have a big enough pile not to have shortages if they don't make one...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

@azzazel_99: VRam stacking would only work if the different gpus render parts of the screen that use different textures. It might be possible in scenarios where parts of the screen are actually statically displaying different parts of the game (e.g. Rendering the HUD on one GPU or having a split...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

@James Mason: I have no personal experience (I am still running a non Rog Asus 780, because it was in stock when I bought, and because it was at a discount), but the tests I found on Guru3d indicate that the Asus card is slightly cooler but slightly noisier under load (but in both cases not...

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

Are there any benchmarks of the 1080 with a couple of cpus at 1080p and 1440p? Because the lead of the 1080 increases with resolution, it seems to me some games might be CPU bound at these resolutions, although that is impossible to say without some good benchmarks.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1000 Series (Pascal) MegaThread: FAQ and Resources

@U6b36ef Unfortunately, the real world is not as simple as you think. With each die-shrink the angle you have to be able to distinguish gets smaller in the optical parts of the lithographic process. That is fine on a small chip, because you can make the lense basically narrower, but if you want...
