OP: Why Microsoft is Innocent with IE8

First, I would agree, if Windows 7 arrived without a browser, it would be one of the first things I installed. And, I would agree that I would install Internet Explorer 8, although it would probably come after Firefox and Chrome, but IE8 is a very good browser, certainly not the disaster that...

Effectively this is a touch. This problem has popped up in a number of different threads. Apparently is pretty widespread.

    Can't access most forums...

Got my post count up (legitimately, to 25, out of stranger to newbie), but that seemed to make no difference in which forum categories I could see while logged in. Still can get to Hardware, CE, Community, cannot get to Network, Mobile, Games, and Software. So it isn't post count that's...

KVM but I don't need video....

I pretty much run with a multipel computer setup, too, but mostly KVM into one screen. The exception is the laptop just sets to the side, hooked into the network. But the two desktops use the same screen. So I was wondering, why are you using two screens? Seems like there would be some...

    Mirroring question

I've run RAID-1 for years, on two home systems. There's good and bad news there. Good news: - Lost two hard disks, disk failure, warranty return/replace. Went fine. No loss of data, no loss of system while the drive was off being repaired. Bad news: - Recently had a software glitch of...

    crazy notion: flash memory?

I saw something saying a vendor was working on 32GB compact flash, the idea being that you would use one or two of these on a small laptop, in place of the hard disk. I'd have to agree, the concern would then be on the lifetime, but it is an interesting thought. Lot less likely to die in a drop.

    2 Hard drives or 1

I have run mixed Linux/Windows systems. Getting back to the original question of 1 vs. 2 disks, I would suggest 2. You can wedge two or more OSes onto a system, and use System Commander, Grub, or whatever to boot them, but using two disks makes it much less likely that some partition table or...

Looking for most cost effective backup for home

I agree. Generally, if you are trying to back up more than one system, you're into one of a couple of approaches: 1. Back up from System A to System B, and vice-versa 2. External hard drive - either USB or Network attached Actually, I think Symantec Save and Restore has pretty much replaced...

    Floppy disk question

This seems too obvious to bother asking, but... What type of floppy drive connection are you using? Some of the BIOS flash routines can cope with conventional floppy attachments, but not USB. Sometimes there are also CD based flash routines, so you might poke around the Mobo site for this.

    New to SATA

One thing that maybe is worth adding is that I had one of the early SATA boards, and fairly good cables, but they tended on occaison to unseat. SATA 1st. gen connectors had a pretty horrible retention. I saw somewhere that there is a new variant, with kind of an interlock, so you might want to...

    What is Net Nuetrality?

I would think that's it that last 100 meter set of providers that would more and likely end up being the ones not net-neutral. They have all the incentive, in terms of being able to charge (and probably charge both ways, to the end user, and to the provider). I notices the FCC chairman in the...
