Another thing I just remembered when I had just the displayport connection in and hit f2/delete to get into BIOS. I noticed all the edges of the monitor were lit like something was trying to display but everything else was dark. So hoping it is some power thing that the active port can solve...

From what I read, if there is DP++ support there would be a logo next to the connector and I don't see that on my desktop. That connection panel came with the motherboard. So would that mean I needed an active converter such as this...

The other monitor is an Acer monitor and is pretty new. Unfortunately it does not have a DisplayPort connection. So that's why I purchased an HDMI to DisplayPort cable. The cable I purchased says it is unidirectional.

Hmmm, my primary monitor is actually a Samsung TV which I inherited and putting to good use. In device manager it is showing up as Generic PnP Monitor so maybe that has something to do with it. I tried disconnecting the TV to see if it would force to the other monitor but it did not. I don't see...
