Which is better: 9, 10, or 11 CAS RAM

All I could think of was a timing situation where the memory controller would assume it had a couple cycles to play with while waiting for the memory to respond or the value to stabilize, and CL9 came back too quick for that strategy to work, but that's a real stretch, to say nothing of poor...

Which is better: 9, 10, or 11 CAS RAM

Which is better: 9, 10, or 11 CAS RAM

I'm looking at CAS9 vs CAS11 memory for a Dell Latitude E6440 i7-4610, and the memory vendor said "CL11 model may work better for the Dell computer. CL9 is generally not supported." Why would a system not support a lower latency?

Do I need Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

Even without a RAID array, and with Intel Rapid Storage turned OFF on the ASUS Z97 motherboard, whenever I logged in as a standard user, I'd get an Intel Rapid Storage popup message telling me I had a storage error, and to open the Intel app for details. But a standard user can't open the app...

    Moving a 32-bit Windows 7 upgrade to a 64-bit machine

Not sure I have an old XP... disk (didn't have your foresight), but will look, and otherwise will try your 2nd suggestion. I would have kept the old disk for data recovery anyway. Only question in my mind is whether w64 will treat itself-32 as a base for the upgrade. I'll let you know what happens.

    Moving a 32-bit Windows 7 upgrade to a 64-bit machine

I have a very tired 32-bit machine which has Windows 7 running on it. This Windows 7 was installed as an upgrade from the original XP installation. Both 32 and 64 bit DVDs were included in the upgrade kit. Is there any way I can install the 64-bit system onto this machine when I replace the...

Samsung SP2504C not seen in BIOS

The SP2504C can be jumpered to support SATA I (1.5Gb/s). Instructions for doing so are printed in really tiny print on the drive label. Without the jumper, it's SATA II (3Gb/s).

DHCP address reservation fails on Verizon DLink DSL-2750B

Based on long frustrating talks with Verizon tech "support" and Verizon "Premium" tech "support", DHCP address reservation ("manual allocation" in RFC 2131) is neither understood nor supported by Verizon in consumer routers. The feature may not work without fussing with hidden settings in the...

DHCP address reservation fails on Verizon DLink DSL-2750B

I define a static address reservation for a specific MAC address and IP address of 192.168.2.66. This address immediately shows up in the address distribution list, with a status of EXPIRED. When I plug in the device, it apparently does not receive the address from the router, and assigns itself...

Cloning multi-partition HDD to smaller SSD

Turned out to be easier than that. Samsung DM did in fact allocate the entire SSD to the new C: drive, which I was able to shrink to 100GB using Disk Manager (only ~50GB was allocated), then allocate the remainder to a new E: drive; now copying the old E: drive's content (~35GB) to the SSD's E...

Cloning multi-partition HDD to smaller SSD

My HDD in a Lenovo laptop is 500GB, partitioned as C: and E:, 125GB and 375GB, respectively. I want to transfer both C: and E: to the SSD, in new partitions of 100GB and 150GB, resp. I naively thought that Samsung DM would recognize and honor partitions defined on the SSD, but when I tried to...
