Win 7 just won't shut up

I have finally SOLVED this problem. I installed RAID drivers when I built the system. The anticipated RAID setup never happened, but I didn't think to uninstall the drivers. I uninstalled them today, after reading about a similar problem with incessant disk activity, and the HDD LED is now quiet...

Win 7 just won't shut up

Yes, they are small writes, but it's constant head movement for the HDD. If it was this way with XP, too, then it doesn't bother me either. I had a very good experience with XP. If it's going to wear out my HDD in a few years, though, then it bothers me. I did find a partial answer to my...

Win 7 just won't shut up

Hi, I have Win 7 64-bit on my new system, and I've noticed that the HDD LED constantly chatters. It never goes even a second without some disk activity. I can't compare this to XP, because my XP machine doesn't have an HDD LED (or it's broken, or it's not wired, whatever). My XP HDD is 8 years...

    Do I need more cooling?

@MGF Derp: I swapped the thermal paste right away. I used the 'rice grain' amount in the center of the processor. Don't think it was too much. Also, the stock cooler is mounted with push pins, so no chance of over tightening anything. I'm not sure I like the way it's mounted, but it does take...

    Do I need more cooling?

HI guys, My new I5-2500k build is up and running. I am not over clocking, and I have the stock cooler. Prime95 torture tests show a max temp of 76 degrees Celsius for both large and small FFTs. Idle temps are around 35 degrees. I am assuming that's a typical range for these tests on a stock...

    New system is dead

SOLVED .. I debated whether to share this or not, but what the heck. You know that thing on the front panel called a power switch ... gotta push it. :fou: Of course, I figured this out AFTER removing the PSU and motherboard from the case for stand-alone testing, verifying that it was still...

    New system is dead

UPDATE: I can power all 4 of the case fans from the PSU if I use the paper clip to connect green to black on the 24-pin connector from the PSU, but nothing if I plug that connector into the motherboard.

    New system is dead

Hello, I just assembled a new system. When I powered it up, I got nothing. No PSU fan, no CPU fan, no case fans, no lights, nothing. I did the "paper clip" test, connecting green to black on the 24-pin PSU power, and the PSU fan came on like it should. But that's all I can get out of the...

Setting PCH SATA control mode = RAID (XHD) with only a single HDD

Hello, I'm putting together a new system based on the Z68 chipset (GA-Z68X-UD3H motherboard). Initially, I will have a single HDD and no SSD. I may want to add an SSD later, to take advantage of Intel's SRT; or I may want additional HDDs later -- possibly in a RAID configuration, possibly not...
