I would agree with ijack, another possible solution is to unplug and carefully re-plug all the connections in and try again. I have to warn you though, i have had this problem twice, and both times it was my motherboard that was faulty / blown.

im sorry i misread "gpu" as "cpu"! i would not try change the thermal paste on the gpu. Perhaps try older version drivers for your card? sudden shutdown without any error message, bsod, freezing ,etc. means it could well be heat causing a problem.

Damn, id say that thermal paste needs a change... 58C idle is high and if it shoots to 90C then it is not dissipating the heat enough, and the cpu will shut down to prevent damage.

try formatting it and see if it works any better, otherwise turf it. i bought a brand new 3tb 7200rpm drive for $129 after mine started giving errors. it was a small price to pay to remove any risk of losing all my info/games and all the hassle it caused me.

try lowering the settings and see if that helps. turn down some of the more taxing features, ie AA, etc. also download and run msi afterburner, then load up and play the game. Afterwards look at the graphs and see if your GPU usage is right, and it is hitting the right frequencies.

the gtx570 will be significantly more poweful. i had one and it was a great card. you have more than enough power for it too. maybe consider getting another 4gb of ram
