Review Seagate BarraCuda 8TB HDD Review: The SMR Slowdown

I've recently bought one of this drives and while I haven't installed it yet on its final (new) system, I copied a few thousand files (800GB or so of data) to it from an old system. Purchase reasons are simple: cheapest thing per GB by far (anything else was 30%+ more expensive) and good reviews...

News PC Sales Dropped Nearly 30% in Q1 With Apple the Biggest Loser

AM6 will almost certainly not come out in 2024. 2026 is far more likely.

News Intel Claimed 6 Percent of Discrete GPU Market in Q4

Aha, calling John Pedddie research reputable is like calling a censored reputable. Sorry, but it is simply amusing. And the same goes for Steam HW survey. And I'm not saying that any of these are in collusion with nVidia. It is just due to methodology. AFAIK JP follows shipments of a few...

News AMD Execs Cash Big Bonus Checks While Intel's Take Pay Cuts

Those bonuses are nothing really extraordinary - by the title I was expecting something like 10 times those values...

Question AM5 Mobo for 7950X... ROG Strix X670E-A and alternatives ?

While my current PC (a 4770k) is over 9 years, it is an outlier in that regard. Anyway, the new one is intended for 5 years+. Just the watercooling is a bit of work - and expense - to set up ;)

Question AM5 Mobo for 7950X... ROG Strix X670E-A and alternatives ?

Thanks, for the input :) - I'm pretty sure that the B650E Aorus Master is a very good board. Problem is is that it is more expensive to me than the (already very quite expensive) Asus ROG Strix 670E-A - I know it is probably due to some local market thing (in the US the Aorus should cost 350USD...

    Question 7900x3d motherboard

AFAIK the 3d cache is just on one CCD, that maxes out at a lower freq than the other regular CCD. The boost clock rates they are stating is only achieved by the second CCD. So the less power comes from lower clock rates and possibly lower power limits and a bit of binning.

Question Desktop PC powers on only with air conditioner turned on ?

Ok, if the UPS is working that rules out electrical source issues. Humidity causing an electrical issue seems to me the most obvious possibility. Have you tried using an hair drier, just as a test?

Question Would random BSODs/Crashing Every Once in a While More Likely Be PSU or Mobo Related?

Honestly, I doubt it is either. Start by stress testing your pc, namely memory, booting without windows. If it passes stress test, then the problem probably lies elsewhere.

Question New AM5 build - Lights on MOBO but will not power on

It might be a bad mobo - only to be sure is trying out another CPU. Anyway, if you haven't already, try to disconnect everything but the PSU power cables (24 pin and the CPU PCIe power), CPU, cooler and one DIMM. That includes every case connector to the motherboard, so no case power button...

Question New AM5 build - Lights on MOBO but will not power on

Well, I'd advise you to start by removing the GPU and try to boot it. Then one DIMM at a time.

Question AM5 Mobo for 7950X... ROG Strix X670E-A and alternatives ?

I'm considering building a new system to replace my rather old 4770k (basically a 10yo CPU), and I've decided to go for a 7950X or the upcoming 7950X3D - if I meanwhile don't change my mind. And I'm hesitating between 32 or 64 GB of 6000MTs of CL36 or lower DDR5 on a dual kit. But one of my...

News Eight RTX 4090s Can Break Passwords in Under an Hour

Taking into consideration the article content and the comments, I'd change the article headline to something like "Compared to a 3090Ti. the RTX4090 halves the time required to break a typical password encrypted file to about 8 hours"

Review AMD Ryzen 9 7900X Review: Zen 4 Has a Pricing Problem

No, it is a rather poor review, as it bases most (if not all) of its conclusion on the price of other components. In itself it wouldn't unreasonable if there was anything structurally definitive about the price of those said components: e.g. 4 channel server class motherboards. But no, AM5 mobos...
