Yes Optifine is an amazing Thing, I would recommend checking the version you are on for know bugs and Upgrading to the latest 1.8 or even going all the way to 1.10.

If you are using the newest which I am guessing you are, 1.10 modded Minecraft uses alot of Ram now. Biggest thing I would say is adjust your settings to lower graphics. Decrease View/Render distance.
