Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

it is very much a single threaded thing so the better your IPC the better and more powerful CPU's and GPU's of old you can run. I think they do split things across different cores such as emulating the CPU on one and the GPU on another, but you still need fairly substantial IPC if you want to do...

Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

I wasn't factoring other things like getting a cooler into the mix since I'm already aware that I may need to get a new one if I can't get ahold of mounting hardware for my current AiO.

Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

I appreciate the other bits of input though from both of you so far :) In regards to other hardware I do have my CPU-Z link but I have an RTX 3080. PCIe Gen 4 might be a nice improvement. I would also I think enjoy being able to run my second M.2 drive at full speed instead of 2x like I have...

Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

Perhaps there's a language barrier here that is keeping you from understanding what I said so I'll say it differently. I use an emulation project called 86Box. This project is a fork of the PCem project. This project aims to emulate old PC hardware. As it currently stands, the IPC of the 3700X...

Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

not sure why you think I am comparing to 20+ year old hardware? I don't even know why you bring that up...

Discussion Is it worth upgrading to the 12900K from the 3700X?

Sup folks, simple enough question. I currently rock the 3700x and it is by no means a weak CPU, but I've started toying with the idea of a small but perhaps meaningful upgrade rather than just sitting on what I have for the next however many years. Just in case you can't see my CPU-Z link on...

Question Why Isn't New SATA SSD Install Not Showing In BIOS Boot Sequence?

if the older installation of Windows on the HDD was installed using MBR then no, just deleting OS files won't help. You need to backup important data first, then reformat that drive.

Question Can't reactivate Windows 10 on my new PC

are you attempting to reinstall the same version of Windows 10 though? A license for Windows 10 home will not work with Windows 10 pro for example.

    Question what's a good laptop for 2000? 17 inch

it entirely depends on your use case and the kinds of features/functionality you need from it. not to mention 2000 what? Yen? Australian Dollars? Euros? And if it's the EU gotta state what country.

Question Which VPN do you use for your PC ?

I would not trust any VPN whatsoever to truly keep no logs and protect your privacy. Always assume they log something somewhere. and when it comes to any governing body requesting any data on you via court order assume you will not be 100% safe. Don't use a VPN for illegal activities hoping it...

Question Should I install normal AMD drivers on a cheap RX580?

doesn't matter who makes rebrands the card. even with custom PCB rather than reference (which I doubt these cheap cards have) the GPU and tech itself is not manufactured by these off brand companies. All these off brand companies do is take a cheap reference card, slap their own cooling on it...

[SOLVED] Cant I open hotmail in Firefox?

I suggest backing up any important data, and doing a clean install of either 10 or 11. But I recommend using either Tiny10/Tiny11 or Revision OS 10/11 rather than using normal Windows. I personally use Revision OS version of Windows 11 and things work perfectly fine for me. I even run a start...

Build Advice Been a while, new PC build.

Not sure about the B760 motherboard. Don't think you can overclock on it, which just leaves wasted potential for the CPU, especially down the road in the future if you decide to start overclocking, otherwise, the performance difference between a K sku and non K sku is minimal when it comes to...

Build Advice Been a while, new PC build.

It's funny that OP says that about ASUS when I have had nothing but good experiences with ASUS products both for MB and graphics cards, but have had 2 failed MSI boards, 2 failed Gagabyte boards, and 1 failed Gigabyte graphics card in the past. Just basically means that brand has nothing to do...

Build Advice Been a while, new PC build.

I think the OP just doesn't realize that the SODIMM memory in a laptop is not the same as standard DIMM memory on a desktop and is not compatible. I also think the i7 is a bit of a waste when the i5-13600K would be a better overall fit because it's got integrated graphics as a backup solution...
