if the older installation of Windows on the HDD was installed using MBR then no, just deleting OS files won't help. You need to backup important data first, then reformat that drive.

are you attempting to reinstall the same version of Windows 10 though? A license for Windows 10 home will not work with Windows 10 pro for example.
