"Or they could just turn up the DLSS knob." That wouldn't help what is surely a CPU bottleneck.

News AMD RX 9060 XT 16GB flies off shelves, 8GB lingers - GPU launch highlights demand split between variants

Not so with upscaling. I think someone building from scratch today, even on a budget, is going to get a 1440p monitor (or ultra wide), not 1080p. If their GPU doesn't have the horsepower for native, they'll use DLSS, FSR, xeSS, or whatever other technology they can to upscale. I think this is...

News AMD RX 9060 XT 16GB flies off shelves, 8GB lingers - GPU launch highlights demand split between variants

1440p monitors are dirt cheap these days, I see little reason in paying well over $300 on a new GPU just to play at 1080p when a new 1440p VA 144hz monitor can be had for under $150.

My week with Linux: I'm dumping Windows for Ubuntu to see how it goes

Gnome is for Mac users, KDE is better for windows users. KDE is flexible enough for either, but out of the box it's much closer to windows than gnome is.

News FramePack can generate AI videos locally with just 6GB of VRAM

This uses the Hunyuan architecture under the hood, by the way. If anyone is curious enough to try this one out, I highly suggest you check out the "issues" tab in the GitHub and pick up the one click sage attention install script, you could see a 30% speed improvement if you do. Even so, the...

Review Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB review: More VRAM and a price 'paper cut' could make for a compelling GPU

The lack of movement in the gaming performance over time isn't due merely to node progress slowing, Nvidia has continually devoted more and more die space to AI and RT with each generation. If Nvidia were investing all of their efforts into raster performance, you probably would see that 50%+...

Review Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB review: More VRAM and a price 'paper cut' could make for a compelling GPU

The one advantage for the 8GB model is the fact that it's useless for the better, bigger AI models. So, it might actually be in stock for longer than 5 minutes.

Review Asus ProArt PA32UCDM 4K 240 Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor review: Precision, performance and elegance

Is it possible to use a usb-c to display port adapter backwards to plug in a graphics card to the monitor? A single HDMI input and no display port is a real PITA for those of us with normal graphics cards that also want to plug in a gaming console.

News Microsoft says DirectX Raytracing 1.2 will deliver up to 2.3x performance uplift

I'm aware, however when someone like Intel decides to enter the GPU space, they have to pick and choose what hardware features they support and target for optimization. Same goes for engine developers like Epic or Unity. A base standard such as a DXR1.2 or shader model 6.9 or whatever, makes...

News Microsoft says DirectX Raytracing 1.2 will deliver up to 2.3x performance uplift

DXR is a real advantage over Vulkan. Someone has to push for a vendor agnostic standard here, else Nvidia will continue to monopolize it just like they do the AI space.
