Unsure which windows 8.1 dvd to buy

Sabotaging and re-shrink wraping it is possible, or it being a fake version with things like malware and remote desktop turned on like I read has been done with like hundreds of thousands of copies in the past. The same can be said for basically anything you hook to your computer that can have...

Unsure which windows 8.1 dvd to buy

I don't need the added features in Pro. 64-bit OEM's fine. Is this the right item? http://www.frys.com/product/7877319?source=googleps&gclid=CLyRpbGw4bsCFaxr7Aod12IAag How about these...

getting data from a HDD the mobo can't read

I'm going to spend the extra $3 and get the $8 combo with the power supply like the one you lsay you USAFrat suggested. All the youtube videos I watched with these adpters, everyone uses the power adpter instead of the PSU and doesn't mention that you could just use the PSU if you open the case...

getting data from a HDD the mobo can't read

yeah i can get the whole kit like you linked but trying to save a few bucks by using existing PSU power and a spare SATA cable if it is possible? Also, the SATA is a full-size desktop one, not the laptop smaller one that can be powered by the adapters I'm seeing that have two usbs and one...

getting data from a HDD the mobo can't read

I don't need to buy an adapter that also has a power brick to supply power to the SATA if I can borrow power from the PSU like the DVD rom's power supply, right? And If I have a spare cable that's just SATA on both sides, then I could just buy the $3 thing I linked and use the PSU power and the...

    Windows 7 vs 8.1 privacy

I heard back from MS. I basically copy pasted my OP here to them. They only replied with a generic copy paste about product keys that was no help. their email had a link to ask further ?s because it was a do-not-reply email, but the link was invalid. I guess I'll get W8 to save $100, but still...

getting data from a HDD the mobo can't read

I'd rather not swap them out and hope it works or change anything in BIOS I'm not familiar with. I'd rather use the $3 ebay part (plus the'd need a spare SATA cable if they're transfering the files to the SATA they're already using and thus can't use that cable?). I can mail it to them and save...

getting data from a HDD the mobo can't read

someone gave me their old computer. They have a SATA HDD and the data can only be read with the mobo they gave me. Since I installed my own version on windows on the mobo, would the mobo even read their HDD anymore? Either way, I read I could just use a USB to HDD adapter to read the data off...

    Windows 7 vs 8.1 privacy

you mean change the W 8 interface use classic shell, not change W7, but anyway, thanks, I'll consider than if I end up with W 8.1. If I'm reading you second paragraph right, it means I shouldn't consider tricking W7 OEM to install on a different mobo as stealing? thanks

    Windows 7 vs 8.1 privacy

W8 is slightly faster and more secure with a few other benefits, but I probably won't notice. W8 UI looks like an April fools joke but it should eventually become second nature. W8 metro App thing is all/mostly force-fed bloatware that I can hopefully remove after every format to save CPU usage...

^ you're right, it doesn't. OEM 8 or 8.1 is allowed to be transfered to upgraded mobos. Here's a duplicate of this thread with more info...

About Win7 Install Limits how many OEM retail installations motherboard times

Hi, sorry long I'm reading that windows 7 Retail can be installed infinite times on as many different motherbaords (mobos) as I want as long as only 1 is online at a time. Some say it can only be installed 10 times. I read that people sometimes try to reinstall Win 7 Retail and get blocked...
